Woman's Curiosity Unlocks Sealskin Seizure in Pittsburgh

A Pittsburg Leader report details how a curious pair of women at Wylie and Sixth avenues led to the recovery of a valuable sealskin sacque stolen from Mrs. W. W. Miller of 540 Winebiddle avenue. Thomas Filbert of Buffalo was arrested after attempting to reclaim the bundle from police. Filbert claimed 25 cents from a stranger to leave the bundle, but Detective Demmer found the coat’s owner and the furrier stored item. The shawl had been left in storage over the summer. Miller had previously asked a furrier to ship it to her. The case underscores how stealthy observation by bystanders aided law enforcement.
