First Gun Fired In Bollinger County Campaign
The Democratic county convention elected delegates to the state convention and unanimously backed Carrington for superintendent of public schools. The convention named delegates from towns including Lorene, German, Whitewater and Union. A countywide primary was ordered for June 1894 with mass meetings May 4 to elect delegates for a congressional convention in West Plains.

Twin Cities A Division Freight Move From Glen Allen
Rumor from good authority states the Hel mont branch freight division will relocate from Glen Allen to Twin Cities within months. Roadmaster Ball says orders to remove railroad buildings on the Glen Allen land have been issued to prep the move, with more trackage and a new water tank planned here. The Glen Allen facilities are said to be in bad shape, signaling a large business and labor influx for Twin Cities, making it one of the region’s best towns in Southeast Missouri.

Editors Meet in DeSoto Southeast Missouri Press Session
The Southeast Missouri Press association held a three day session in DeSoto last Thursday through Saturday. First Vice President Wright of the New Madrid record presided. Attendance surpassed prior meetings as DeSoto residents hosted with festive welcome. Officers Holmes Mannimes Gale and W. Crow served as secretary and treasurer, with dues reduced to one dollar.

Self-inflicted jaw wound reported in local incident
Harry Teeters accidentally shot himself in the left cheek yesterday at five in the afternoon. The wound was ugly and painful but not dangerous. Dr. Charles Sanders dressed the gash with three stitches. Teeters had a pistol loaded and a shell discharged, causing a facial wound described as wrinkled and painful.
