The Mansfield Press announces a new Mansfield newspaper service planned to serve the town. Editor W. H. Pyces appeals to local business men for support and news tips to create a wide awake paper and boost the town’s business center.
Professor Eccles will speak on Dairying at Seymour on Thursday October 1st before the Ozark Dairy Association annual meeting held there that date. All association members and others interested in rural development are invited to attend.
A newspaper explains it must have paid up subscriptions to be processed as second class mail. Papers cannot be sent to anyone without current payment. The staff notes they will accommodate within the law and avoid complimentary papers.
JB Quigley manager and chief engineer reports in the Springfield Leader that over eighty percent of grading is finished, thirty two percent of tack laid, and sixty five percent of bridging and trussling completed. Line to be finished by November with work rushed.
Wright County Teachers Association met in Hartville with 107 teachers attending over three days. Eight sessions were held as part of certificate requirements. teachers receive regular salaries while attending. The meetings offered exchange of views on school teaching and value the requirement for continued professional sharing.
Lieutenant Governor McKinley spoke for nearly two hours to a large Ava audience at 7 30 PM in the Opera House. Col Neider introduced him with Atting language as W E Crow won the Fourteenth district Congress race with McKinley present. Crow left 7 20 PM for other points. McKinley also planned speeches at Everett and Lockwood.
The Electric line company has acquired land near the old Bryant Mill site six miles from Mansfield for an 800 horsepower steam power plant. Machinery has been prepared and is expected to arrive within two weeks, according to good authority.
Investigations show Mansfield as a promising location for a laundry. With electricity for heating and ironing, the cost becomes affordable and could let a laundry compete with Springfield. This and other local positives merit outside attention.
The Kansas City Ozark and Southern Electric line and Construction Co. have let the contract for a depot erection. E F Burdick will do the concrete work with a concrete building and platform sheds for freight. Large concrete pillars will support the shed. It will be neat and artistic for immediate passenger traffic. Freight sheds to be lengthened as needed and work to begin as soon as preliminaries are arranged.
Rev Jones at the M. E. B. preached a sermon last Sunday night on kissing. He argued clearly that those who practice it in the traditional manner are not an old fogy.
In Wright County Missouri a town of about 750 near Mansfield is midway to Cedar 69 bie. An electric line from Ava to the county seat of Douglas County is under construction. Grading is half done and three miles of steel laid with steady work crews advancing soon. The project is a local enterprise with modest community support and some outside aid.
Governor Folk spoke at the Miller opera house on Wednesday evening before about 525 attendees. J. D Reynolds Judge W.N. Evans and the Mansfield Commercial Band joined him on stage. Judge Evans introduced the speaker and Folk departed by 8 42 pm train for Mountain Grove. He spoke again in Hartville that afternoon before a large crowd. Attendees included Arthur Curtis J A Dennis J B Hensley and Bert Ellis from Wright County Bank.
Senator Porter Johnson has been booked by the State Republican Central Committee for several places and will speak here on Friday October 16 at 7 30 p.m. He is described as an eloquent and forceful speaker. Everyone should attend regardless of party. By order of Committee Gilbert Miller of two miles west of town died Wednesday after returning home and was buried Thursday at Day's Cemetery south of Cedar Gap. Deacon in General Baptist church. H E Stuthert of Lincoln Nebraska, friend of E C Bartlet working on the Kiesserio line here, will help Mr Bartlett out of troubles.
Dr Will Harrison and his wife left today to travel to Douglas County due to the illness of her brother.
State Central committee booked Thomas to speak in Manefield on Thursday at 7 pm and in Hartville at 1 pm on the same day October 1. By order of Committee.
Mrs S C Harrison is listed as sick this week affecting planned duties. No further details provided about condition or dates.
Marry Lee of Gasconadea is visiting her grandmother Margaretta Davis this week.
Democratic gubernatorial hopeful W S Cowherd will visit twenty counties over two weeks starting last Monday. He will deliver about fifty speeches and cover around 2000 miles, beginning with a speech in Vienna Maries County.
Sunday morning a fire at Bertville swept the Farmers' Hotel in Hartville and nearby structures. Lomax Pittman, an attorney boarding at the hotel, perished. The Post Office, Pool's Millinery, and Progress printing office burned. only Jackson's law office escaped major damage. Funeral for Pittman held in Hartville Monday with Judge Pittman of Memphis in attendance.
