Sudan Grass Seed Promises Hay for Dry Regions
The USDA introduced Sudan grass seed named Sidan Glass from Sudan Africa, touted as a top dry-area hay plant. It withholds growth in drought, resembles Johnson grass but has no underground stem, and requires annual planting. In 47 Western Oklahoma farms with Frisco Railroad, green, productive stands were grown. two to five cuttings per season could yield two to five tons per acre. Farmers are urged to learn more from local growers or the Department of Development in St. Louis, and to visit Mansfield Mirror to view the seed.
