The town saw a long list of arrivals departures and social visits as Hiram Huff H. F. McGrire and many others were noted in town. Posts and trades included W A Brake buying a meat market in Mun Grove and Oscar Reon visiting from Summersville. Local authorities and clergy attended meetings in Hartville Springfield Ava and Mt. Zion with upcoming elections and church events referenced.
In one of the longest local games, Mansfield Grays and Seymour Bear Cats tied 7 to 7 after eighteen innings. Hensley started for Mansfield then left after two, Gaskill pitched 16 scoreless innings, Hoover went the distance for Seymour, and fielding by Brake and Freeman highlighted the contest.
At Prebysterian Church, the August 13 program on Pride and Humility features Mamie Beach as leader and Hilene Newton on scripture Jas 4 6 10. Speakers include Mrs G W Freeman on humility as a virtue and Rev Little on apostles humility progress. Officers urged to attend for planning a new executive committee picnic and business.
A church youth program lists leaders and participants for a Bible study meeting. Walter Bean supervises. readings include Corinthians 18 by Fay Stephens and Emma Raby. Bible quiz led by Mrs. J R Gilliland features topics on Paul’s writing, love, eloquence, prophecy, knowledge, faith, and eternal love with several named participants.
Ava businessmen sealed a deal last week to purchase the Ozark Southern Ry with plans to restore freight and eventually passenger service. Work crews are installing new ties, an engine may be leased from Frisco for service once tracks are safe, and the road valued at 65000 with 15000 down and five yearly payments. D. J. Landers is noted as a financial investor with 7500 stock. Directors elected include C H Bartlett J A G Reynolds A P Miller W E Mankin and Jesse A Mitchell.
