Tragedy in Manito as 16 Year Old Dies Hunting Mishap

A 16-year-old Peoria youth, Todd Van Norman, was killed Tuesday morning at Spring Lake when his father Bernard Van Norman fired at a wounded duck from a few feet away. The accident occurred as Todd stood up in the boat during the shot. A coroner's jury will convene Friday evening at Knecks Funeral Home in Pekin to review the case.

Yuletide Bazaar Of Forest City Ladies Aid

The Forest City Ladies Aid held a Yuletide Bazaar at the Baptist church basement starting at 2 PM. The event featured Santa Claus Lane, handmade crafts, aprons, a red brick chimney fish pond, parcel post gifts, Sweets booth with candy, and a varied Food Booth with chili and pies, benefiting the Aid's proceeds after a multi year gap.

Ninth Annual Turkey Banquet At Community Methodist

One hundred seventy persons gathered in the Community Methodist church dining hall last Thursday for the ninth annual Turkey Banquet hosted by the Comrades of the Way Sunday School class. The meal at 7:00 featured Tomato Cocktail, Turkey and Dressing,Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Green Beans, Cranberry Slices, Jello Salad, Rolls, Butter, Preserves, Neapolitan Ice Cream, Cake and Coffee, served by twelve waitresses after an invocation by Rev. Edward Watson.

The message proposed a daily menu for prisoners and the chance to learn skilled trades. It urged parents to keep their children in school longer to foster mature thinking and reduce crime by lowering penal institution entries.

Braves Win Twice Over Green Valley in Week

The Forman Braves beat Green Valley 74 54 on Friday with Dick Wells scoring 16. The reserves won 35 16. Tuesday they defeated San Jose Red Devils 48 43 as Wells led with 14 points and Beten scored 16 for San Jose. No games over Thanksgiving weekend. Next up Williamsville on December 4 at home.
