Sunday May 24 at 8 00 P M C S T Mrs Gordon Bundy Rev D J Powell lead program featuring All Hail The Power of Jesus I know not more about the event or location from the fragment.
Rev D J Powell conducts a program featuring musical solos and trios by Paul Gladys and Ronald Clauser with songs like It Is No Secret and You're A Grand Old Flag. After the program paraders march to Triangle Park for a Soldiers Monument wreathlaying, then proceed to the Opera House for dismissal.
Scholarship examination will be held at the Court House in Havana on Saturday June 6, 1953 at 9 00 a m. Scholarships awarded depend on scores including County Agriculture Veteran of World War I and Child of a Veteran of World War II. Candidates may apply for more than one scholarship and should notify the county superintendent of their intent.
Forman Junior High School hosts open house on May 22 at Forest City. The Forman School Club hosts a potluck supper at 6 30 p m in honor of eighth graders with a program in the gym and classroom displays of arts crafts leather wood shells yarn paints.
On May 18 a group of Manilo Methodist youth met in the church basement to socialize and organize a Youth Fellowship. Officers elected were Loretta Warner president, Charles Bilyeu vice president, Ruth Reed secretary, Nancy Warner treasurer. First devotional meeting planned for May 24 at 6 30 p.m with music and a lesson.

The local baseball team will host Toluca at the Manito ball diamond on Sunday May 24th. The matchup outlines a weekend game with regional teams and a community audience expected.
All Legion Post 561 and Auxiliary members plus Boy Scouts Cub Scouts Girl Scouts and Brownies are ordered to assemble at the Opera House by 9 30 A M for the Memorial Day parade. Wear specified uniforms caps arm bands shirts and ties and carry flags. Special invitation for Legion members from other posts to join Memorial Services.
Mr and Mrs George Bilyeu welcome daughter Cathy Lynn born Wednesday morning in Pekin hospital weighing 7 pounds 15 ounces. Cathy Lynn has sister Cynthia Ann and is welcomed by maternal grandparents Dillard Warner and wife, Charles Warner and Hannah Knuppel as great grandmother. paternal grandparents Ben Bilyeu and wife, with great grandmother Bilyeu of Curran Illinois.

A Minstrel show titled Pets and Repeats will be presented by the Manito Legion and Auxiliary Saturday night in Forman gymnasium starting at 7 30 p.m. The program features songs in darky style including Bill Bailey Birth of the Blues Pistol Packin Momma and Old Man River with advance adult tickets 60 cents and door prices 75 cents for adults 30 cents for children.
Evelyn Fletcher presided over the Forest City Legion Auxiliary meeting at her home with hostesses Mahala Rickett and Lois Parker. Mrs Fletcher reported finances. Nora Cannon announced the finances. the home talent play Safety First raised 34 dollars for each group. Intermediate Girl Scouts made dray favors filled with cigarettes sent to a veterans hospital. attendees included Evelyn and Helen Fletcher, Pearl Wahlfeld, Babe Folkman, Elsie Emmons, Nora Cannon, Hala Rickett, Luetta Gensel, Helen Kreiling, Lois Parker, Mae Breedlove, and guest Martha Kolves.
The Manito Methodist Church announces a vacation bible school set for the second and third weeks in June from the 8th to the 19th. Details will be announced next week.
A return note from the DeVore family announces they are back in Manito after a retirement and first May issue. Walt relocated his family near Springfield Missouri. The family invites visits for tea and notes a ban on weapons entering the area.
