William E Vale Dies At Pekin Hospital

William E Vale of Manito died at Pekin Hospital at 9 p m Wednesday after a months long illness. Born March 17 1898 in Dillon Township Tazewell County he was married to Margarette Van Tine on October 22 1921. Surviving are his widow two sons and four daughters two brothers and three sisters. Funeral services set for 2 p m Saturday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Paul N Rager officiating. Burial at Meadow Lawn Cemetery.

Manita Baseball Club Faces Possible Disbandment Over Funds

The Manita baseball club fears disbandment before the third round beginning August 9 due to dwindling funds. Early season donations totaled $165 from collectors Bob Smith and Eugene O’Shea, with home game receipts around $20 per game. Costs include baseballs at 28 per dozen five dozen used, bats at 33 per dozen three dozen, umpire fees at 5 per game plus league fees. losses are daily with bats breaking and balls lost. Public donations via hat passes encouraged for remaining games with no general admission fee.

The Manito baseball team will play Tremont Sunday June 28 at Tremont. Carl Vogel of San Jose visited his sister Mrs Anna Reed in Manito and is reported improving after injuries from a recent accident.

Robertson Child Stricken by Polio in Blooming ton

Kerry Robertson six year old son of Mr and Mrs Clarence Robertson was taken to St Joseph Hospital in Bloomington Tuesday. After examination and spinal test it was diagnosed as polio. Latest reports say he is resting better on Thursday. The Robertsons also have a younger daughter.

Fourth Celebration in Manito Plans Complete

Plans are set for a July 4 celebration on the American Legion lawn in Manito hosted by Hill Palmer Post 561 and Auxiliary. The day runs from noon with fish fry plates and entertainment for all ages, a 2:30 P.M. home talent program featuring solos and dances, followed by a free square dance and music by the Robinson Bros as organizers aim for Manito’s largest Independence Day observance.

Forman FFA Students Excel In State Judging Contest

Forman FFA teams competed in Champaign at the annual state judging contest among 324 chapters. In dairy judging Forman teams earned blue ribbons with members Eddie Wooding Duane Knaak Dwight Whitaker also scoring blue individually. In livestock judging Frank Golden earned a blue and Jerry and Charles Bilyeu won red ribbons. Lawrence Meyer achieved 764 points, among the state’s top five in grain judging.
