A record Training School met June 27 from 9 30 a m to 3 00 p m CST in the Farm Bureau basement in Havana. The session aided 4 H members in filling Project Honor and Outstanding Membership books and taught officer duties.
Joy Richardson and George E. Thomas were married June 27 in Manito in a double ring ceremony at 8 p.m. Rev. Joseph Hobbs officiated. The bride wore ice blue satin with lace and tulle, carried pink and white flowers, and was crowned with a veil. Attendants included maid of honor Louis Ann Hirst and best man William R. Singley. After a garden reception, the couple left for a short wedding trip and will reside in Pekin with Thomas employed at Caterpillar Tractor Co.
Miss Barbara Fiedler of Oak Park Chicago marries Dean Hill of Galesburg at St Edmund Church Oak Park at 11 am Saturday June 28. The reception follows at Butterfield Country Club. Hill, a Knox College June graduate, will begin military service as a lieutenant in October.
The Manita Home Bureau holds an all day meeting at the Methodist Church on July 10 at 11 30 CST. Mrs Elsie Willett and Maisie Moore host. A pot luck dinner is served at noon. Major lesson desserts to fit the meal by a Local Leader. Minor lesson demonstrations by 44H members. Relleal where I would like to go on a vacation.
The Merry Maidens 4-H Chile reported Wednesday afternoon with Linda Rose LeSourd. projects include Sewing and Baking. A Home Bureau refinishing furniture course was hosted at Mrs. Floyd LeSourd’s home Friday. Elmer Mason, former Topeka resident, has died.
Miss Elizabeth Fischer of Green Valley visited several days last week with her niece and husband Mrs and Mrs S M Rush and her grand niece Mrs Ernest Archam beau.
Mrs. Eldon Keith and her children of Havana visited Tuesday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Graff.
Cpl. and Mrs. Virden Armbrust, living at Highland Park while he is stationed at Ft. Sheridan, spent the weekend with the latters parents Mr. and Mrs. Chas Gordon Sr. Gary Gordon accompanied them back to Highland Park on Sunday for a week long visit.
Elmer E Mason died Friday June 27 at 3 10 p m after years of illness. Born September 10 1874 in Mason County he was son of Thomas and Louvisa Mason. He married Ida Stuart March 22 1909 at Easton Illinois and had three sons Austin Green Valley Harold Manito Raymond Augusta Georgia. He farmed near Poplar City then Iowa before returning to Illinois in 1917 near Manito and later Topeka then Manito due to Mrs Masons health. Survived by three sons two grandchildren one great grandchild one sister Mrs Cynthia Chester Massena Iowa. preceded by wife and sister Hattie Crum. Funeral 2 pm Monday Johnson Funeral Home Manila Rev Joseph Hobbs. burial Laurel Hill Havana. Mrs Mabel Crosby soloist with Bertha Briggs accompaniment. pallbearers James Seelye Ernest Gumbel S E Dennis John Crosby Russell Crosby Owen Singley.
Mrs. Margaret Bicknell Allen is a renowned figure in home economics with a career spanning cooking schools recipe development and wartime nutrition work. She directed Buffalo Niagara Electric Corporation’s Home Service and later led the Deepfreeze Division’s Home Economics in North Chicago while publishing widely used nutrition information booklets.
Vacation Bible School at Manito Methodist Church closed Friday June 27 after a successful week. Programs ran smoothly with strong attendance and high perfect-attendance counts across Nursery to Junior classes. Volunteers led by Mrs. Roberta Marquardt, Mrs. Elsie Willet, Miss Nora Ryan, and others received praise from observers. The church expresses confidence in offering another school next year under Rev. D. J. Powell.
Mr and Mrs Lawrence Trent of Chicago arrive Tuesday noon for a visit with the former's sister Mrs Flossie Trent.
Clayton Shelabarger and Mr and Mrs Bill Shelabarger visited Sunday with Mr and Mrs Cleve Shelabarger in Spring Lake for a family dinner in this community notice.
