County Cage Tournament Opens at Havana Gym

The thirty fourth Mason County basketball tourney began at Havana Community High School Gym with Easton vs Bath Lynchburg and Forman vs San Jose. Forman triumphed 47 45 on Parker Lawliss last second basket after San Jose tied with a 35 footer, advancing to Friday’s final against Havana.

SICK NOTES Mrs. William Meyer is recovering from a major operation at St. Frances Hospital in room 256. Elmer Palmer returned home from Pekin Hospital. Etta Cox was taken to Methodist Hospital Peoria after sudden illness. Mrs. Folbert Maas is convalescing at home with her daughter and husband. Postmaster Glenn Smith, a pneumonia patient, visited the post office briefly. Bert Davis was admitted to Methodist Hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Wm Masters, Forman High School Ag teacher, returned home from Pekin Hospital.

Birth of Sharon Beth Graff in Pekin Hospital

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Graff welcomed a baby girl, Sharon Beth, born Friday January 23 at Pekin Hospital. The family, with Marilyn Kreiling as mother, returned home Sunday afternoon to stay with paternal grandparents Leonard Graff. Older siblings Marcia Kay and Douglas are visiting maternal grandparents Percy Kreiling in Forest City.

Chicken Noodle Supper For Heating Plant Fund

The Mary Joseph Class of the Methodist Church hosts a chicken noodle supper on Wednesday February 18 to raise funds for a new heating plant. Serving begins at 5:00 and ends at 7:30 with adult tickets one dollar and children under 11 fifty cents. See a member for tickets.

Mr and Mrs Orville Rankin hosted a Sunday gathering for Mr and Mrs Daniel Rankin as they mark their 40th wedding anniversary on January 29. The Forman Braves and staff were treated to a steak supper by Filmer Vogel at Monroe Restaurant after defeating San Jose in the Mason County tournament Monday night. Eastern Star Honors Mrs. Walter Beale on Thursday

Rebecca Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Stars will meet in the Masonic Hall Thursday evening to honor Mrs. Walter Beale who is soon leaving Illinois to make her home in the west. She has long been an active member and will be presented a gift as a token of esteem.

Eschmeyer Dies at 77 in Pekin Hospital

William E. Eschmeyer 77 a longtime Pekin farmer died Tuesday at Pekin Public Hospital after residence of 50 years He was born in Rivley County Indiana April 23 1875 and married Elizabeth Fornett in 1905 He was a St Pauls Lutheran Church member and long-time Isenberg school board member Surviving are his wife a daughter and a grandchild Funeral services will be 115 PM Friday at the family home and 2 PM at St Pauls Lutheran with burial at Meadow Lawn Cemetery.

Manito Rotary Club Hosts Film Night and Dinner

The Manito Rotary Club met in the Methodist Church basement with Rev. D J Powell presiding. A fine church supper was served by the women, and a spirited song fest followed led by Vernon Langston with Betty Meyer at the piano. Merle Jackson of Forest City presented colored films from Niagara Falls Canada the Pontiac steam engine show and the Forest City Homecoming. Rev. Leslie R Stewart of Havana attended as a guest. Powell will lead next week’s program.
