Burglars hit two local businesses early Sunday. Kenny Monroe’s cafe lost about 150 dollars from cash and coin machines after jamming the back door and a safe attempt. Singley Store suffered a three dollar cash drawer theft and forced safe markings. Sheriff Lascelles investigated fingerprints on the Monroe Cafe safe.
Merle Mitchell reports the death of his younger brother Frank Mitchell who died suddenly at his Anaheim home on Sunday January 18. Born in Mason City 52 years ago, he lived in Maine Peoria and California where he worked as a car salesman. Survived by his wife two sons Jack and Donald two brothers Roy and Merle and his sister Verna Fauvel. Funeral services were held in Anaheim Wednesday afternoon.
Children and grandchildren of the late Mr and Mrs George Lowry gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs Jack Gilmore Tremont for a Sunday family reunion. Attendees included Earl Lowry Loren Dean Loury Carl Thomas Roy Lowry and Wanda Lee Shepardson Hild and Mrs Alvah Baily among others.

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Eschmeyer of Route One Manito marked their 48th wedding anniversary last Sunday January 18. Neices and nephews from Pekin and Manito called to offer best wishes, and their daughter and family hosted an oyster supper with several invited guests including Clarence Fornoff Mary Garlish Alfred Garlish and Henry Palmer.
Nineteen boys from Manila Boy Scout Troop 174 traveled to Peoria for an evening swim at the Y M C A on Wednesday January 4. Drivers Chuck Fox Hal Willett and Ralph Parkin supervised.
