North Mason 4-H Stunt Contest at Forman Junior High

North Mason 4-H Club stages a stunt show on February 1 1955 at 7 30 p m in Forman Junior High Gym Forest City. Five clubs from Manito Forest City Topeka area compete with winners advancing to county district and state contests. Notable acts include Fancy Fixers Forman 4-H and Merry Maidens Forest City with piano solos vocal numbers and novelty stunts. Tickets 25 cents adults 10 cents children at the door or from 4-H members.

New England Snowfall Brings Heavy Cold and Hazardous Travel

Snow blanketed fields and highways this week with temperatures dropping to about 14 below. Tonight should be milder near 10 to 15 above, but light snow falls raise driving hazards. Residents recall lines of a poem describing the winter white as sleds reappear and shovels hit the streets. Drive carefully tomorrow.

New Pastor Appointed at St Pauls Lutheran Church

The Rev Harold Schlicker of Bible Grove Illinois is named the new pastor at St Pauls Lutheran Church. A Concordia Seminary graduate he has filled the pulpit on Sundays during 1954 55 and will move with his wife and four children to the parsonage at month end. Newly elected church officers for 1955 were installed by vacancy pastor Rev Lester H Kuker after Morning Services.

Hewitts Welcome Son Born in Spring Valley Hospital

Mr and Mrs Leonard O Hewitt of McNabb announce the birth of a 6 pound 6 ounce boy on January 22 at Spring Valley hospital He joins three brothers and four sisters in the family.

Mason 4-H Drive Promotes Local Building Fund

The Mason 4-H Drive kicks off to raise funds for three buildings with several thousand dollars raised in two days. Residents from Manita and Forest City are asked to donate via solicitors or by contacting Bill Masters Ernie Beebe or Bud Warner, as door to door efforts skip south Tazewell County. All F F A members from Forman High School may show in the Havana Junior Show, Mason or Tazewell County. The campaign promises to be a one time building program with visible results for the Forman area.

Still Time To Donate To March Of Dimes

Approximately two hundred dollars has been raised in Manila during the March of Dimes Campaign to date. Mrs. Ruth Parkins, chairman, reports that $21.85 came from the March of Dimes Dance and the rest from the Boy Scout Canvass containers school contributions and public donations. A complete report with itemized donations will be published later.

Extension Course To Begin Tuesday February 1

Illinois State Normal University extension course E162 Survey of Special Education will be offered at Mason City High School in Room 12 during the second semester. It provides 2 semester hours with a $10 enrollment fee. First meeting is Tuesday February 1, 1955 at 5 p.m., taught by Dr Mildred Ingram. Members will decide if weekly meetings continue Tuesdays.

Knox College Honors 41 Freshmen Including John P. Lynch

John P. Lynch is named an honor student at Knox College Galesburg Illinois. Forty one freshmen, among over 300 in the class, meet the 1.75 GPA criterion for Honor Scholars. Lynch is son of Mrs Christine Lynch Manito and a Forman Graduate class of 1954. Mrs Lynch, Knox graduate class of 1928, is his mother.

John Deere Day draws large crowd in Manita Forest City area

A community meeting sponsored by Seelye Hardware packed the gym as Manita and Forest City residents attended John Deere Day. Attendees watched five films including Miss Hattie with four other John Deere promotional reels. Door prizes such as 25 pounds of Riley Bros. Grease won by Milton Jacobs, a speed indicator to Laurence Whiteford, a can opener to Gene Richardson, and mixing bowls to Mrs. Charles Roat were awarded.

Mason Co Rural Youth Banquet and Dance Event

The Mason County Rural Youth banquet and dance takes place February 5 1956 at St Pauls Lutheran Havana with Reverend Fell of San Jose as speaker. Fulton Co Down Beats will play at the Grade School Gym after a 6 30 banquet and 9 30 dance. Tickets for both events are $2 available from Rural Youth members or the farm bureau office.

Fischer Family Visits Honor Local Weekend Guests

Mr and Mrs John Fischer and daughters visited over the past weekend with relatives and friends in our community. They stayed overnight Saturday at the home of Henry Fischer and Sunday evening were joined by Mr and Mrs Wm H Fischer and sons for supper at the Henry Fischer home.

Butch Zimmerman, son of Mr and Mrs Oron Zimmerman, had a tonsillectomy at Methodist Hospital Peoria last Friday morning. He returned home that game evening and convalesces at home this week. Charles Gorden Sr. remains in Pekin Hospital since Jan 19 in serious condition, has come out from the oxygen tent but remains ill.
