James Bender, Pekin Resident, Dies at 69

James Bender known as Jim, longtime Pekin resident and Tazewell Service salesman, died at 6 a.m. January 10 at his Pekin home. Born January 1, 1896 in Spring Lake township, he was survived by his wife Clara Wistehuff, his mother, a sister Minnie Bender of Manito, and brothers John of Manito and Walter of Mason City. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Pauls Evangelical and Reformed Church in Pekin.

Hill Palmer Post and Auxiliary set February 16 for a chili and oyster supper starting at 5:00 p.m. at their January 3 meeting. Rev Dan Demmin to Speak at Spring Lake Church Sunday

The Spring Lake Church hosts Rev. Dan Demmin as guest speaker Sunday at 7 30 PM. Demmin, Peoria LeTourneau Westinghouse chaplain and Peoria native, will present the Gospel and show slides titled The Boy Who Ran Away with Mrs Demmin accompanying on piano. The pastor will be away that evening.

Forest City Dance Supports March of Dimes

Legion Post No 1190 and Auxiliary sponsor a March of Dimes Dance at Forest City Junior High Gym on Friday January 14. Music by Buck Vonderheide Carl Weir Howard Moore and Edith Linnenberger with Glen Curtis as caller. 60 cents admission for high school age and up. proceeds go to the March of Dimes Drive to help Mason County reach its $10 000 goal.

At the annual meeting of St Pauls Lutheran church on January 9 officers for 1955 were elected. Leonard Graff is chairman with Warren Frederick secretary Delmar Durdel mission treasurer Maurice Woodrow Hidars, Louis Lussenhop trustee Ernest Vogel and George Leinweber trustees. Collectors, ushers, delegates, and committees named with several church members listed in the 1955 roster.

Farmers who have not submitted all evidence for 1954 ACP practices must report by January 17 1955 or payment will be cancelled. The 1955 signup closes February 18 1955. Practices needing soil tests will await filing in the ASC office and requests must be on file before work begins.
