The Illinois Commerce Commission is asked to authorize changes to monthly local telephone charges across all Illinois exchanges. W. R. McGrew, State Manager, announces the filing of the petition and notes the proposed adjustment.
McGrew notes Illinois telephone rate schedules would rise about 14 percent per class with charges for connections and pay stations. He cites wage increases since 1950, rising taxes and materials costs, and a plant expansion to serve about 35 000 telephones, seeking investor funds through higher rates.
Mr and Mrs John Bender hosted a Sunday birthday celebration at their country home for their younger daughter Mrs Phillip Golden. A goose and pheasant dinner and a birthday cake by Mrs Christine Johnson were centerpiece. Attendees included Mrs Orin Winner, Phillip Golden, Mary Lynn Gosda, Donald Burks and the hosts. The honoree received many greetings and gifts.
