Forman journeyed to Athens on Tuesday night and dropped the season opener. Athens led 3-0 after the first quarter and 36-35 at halftime. In the final period Athens outscored Forman 18 to 11 to seal a 67 57 loss.
A surprise birthday party for Mrs. Christine Johnson was hosted by Mrs. Joseph Sparks on Tuesday evening. Tables of fifty, prizes for Emma Hart Eva Wilson Kathryn Hamilton Lorraine Meyer, and a three course luncheon with a large birthday cake were featured.
Dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Wayne Wistehuff and their son included Mr and Mrs James Seelye, as noted in the social column.
Vernon Langston served as program chairman for the Mainto Rotary Club gathering. Edward Whitaker of Caterpillar Tractor Co. spoke, sharing overseas pictures from Japan and Okinawa, with Byron Bartell assisting. The club will dismiss after meals for basketball games at Forman Gym for the next two weeks.
Friday December 12 Masonic Meeting open to public Forman versus Easton basketball game here. Sunday December 14 Pot luck supper at Methodist church with Reb t Whitfield as speaker. Monday December 15 Legion Meeting at Legion Hall Forman School Club meeting. Tuesday December 16 Forman versus Havana basketball. Thursday December 18 Spring Lake Home Bureau all day meeting at Mrs Doris Yentes home.
Thursday night visits by Parksand and David Rager accompany Sunday calls from Norman Coombs and the Donleys in Delavan. Numerous families attend gatherings and a Peoria wedding as extended social ties show active community life through weekend and Monday events.
The Forman F F A grain judging team scored a record point total at the sectional event in Delavan among 15 teams and 75 boys from Mason Fulton and Tazewell counties. Fred Friedrich earned a blue first place individual ribbon and Eldon Wahlfeld took a red second, with Lawrence Meyer Marvin Quick and Stanley Noll also on the Forman team.

Miss Joan and Beverly Dennis hosted a Bradley University gathering in Peoria at the Dennis home. Guests included Angie Trintodue of Chicago and friends Leo Davis Dick Hyde and John Deininger, extending a cordial campus social set.
Mr and Mrs Owen Singley and Mr and Mrs James Seelye entertained the Pinochle Club at the Signley home last Thursday evening. Prizes were won by Mesdames Grover Gumbel Harold Meyer and Amos Thompson and Messrs Laurence Thomas Jim Bernshausen and Amos Thompson.
Mr and Mrs Elmer Bartel of Forest City mill marked their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Baptist Church Forest City on Sunday December 14 from 2 to 5 pm Relatives and friends were invited to attend.
A new in store display at Stuart's Antique Shop showcases community heirlooms. Items include a hand loomed centerpane from Ozark Missouri, a Staffordshire vase, a carved wooden chopping bowl, a reed basket, a pottery churn with lid, a Daguerreotype case, a gorget with Georgian cypher, wooden toys, a pastoral picture by Fannie Spaits Mervin, a Currier and Ives print, an onyx coin, an adz and a wood plane.
A December 4 training session for Home Bureau Unit recreation chairmen was led by County Recreation Chairwoman Mrs. Fern Tomlin and Karl Munson. The meeting aimed to help chairmen plan engaging recreation for their units in the coming year.
The Mason County Home Bureau Board met December 1 at the Farm Bureau Building. Reports show 498 members with 10 new this month, 20 associate members and 58 guests. 4-Hers plan a chili supper to honor leaders on December 6. Cookbooks sold total 1197 through December 1. Scrap-book project approved again. Landscaping project to run three years. Home Bureau Play Day set for February 13 with District II hosts. Attendees plan to visit the next County Board of Supervisors session.
The 4 H Federation takes responsibility for decorating a Farm Bureau Building window every two weeks. County 4 H Ag Clubs and Home Ec Clubs handle planning and decorating. The Bath Surettes led last week while the Chaney Happy Hour Club decorates this week.
Service note requests birthday wishes for M Sergeant Leroy F Parkins of the 27th Infantry 25th Division stationed at APO San Francisco CA and for Robert F O Hara of the Mobile Communications Squadron APO 970 also in San Francisco. Della O Hara provided the new address for her son in Korea.
Private John David Boyer arrives from Camp Stoneman California and will spend Christmas with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Boyer. His furlough ends December 27.
Mr and Mrs Howard Boyd entertained Mrs Effie Cox and Miss Lillie Reed at a delicious wild duck dinner Sunday.
Last year saw the first four winter Hand icraft clubs organized by Mrs. Gerald Patterson. This winter the Happy Hour Club returns with 12 girls taking advanced work. New clubs include Havana Hustlers with 22 girls, Mason City Handy Helpers with 10, Snicarte Go-Getters with 9, all meeting weekly as spring club work nears.
Start planning for Farm and Home Week February 2 to 6 with events across the county. The Home Bureau Federation holds its annual meeting February 8 on campus to discuss programs and membership.
