Powell couple back from vacation to lead Sunday services

Rev. and Mrs. D J Powell have returned from their vacation and he will oversee Sunday services. The Express also shares a winter scene postcard from the Powells, showing a Toboggan slide near Cadillac Michigan. They note they did not go on the slide and they enjoyed their trip.

Local Fan Art Schimmelpfenning Donates $5 to Ball Club

The letter writer Art Schimmelpfenning donated to the ball club in response to an appeal. The amount was five dollars and the paper notes it as generous and appreciated. Additional donations since last week are not known.

The Manito Rotary Club met August 11 at Forest City Baptist church with W. L. Kerr in charge. Herman Kipp of Havana spoke on Havana Centennial plans for September 5 6 7 and the Centennial Sweethearts sang led by director Mrs. D. M. Whitten, with visitor Cecil Fore of Mason City present. Spring Lake Church Sunday School Picnic Held at Pekin Park

The annual event at Mineral Spring Park Pekin starts at 11 a.m. Saturday with a basket dinner at noon. Teachers run class games and contests while ice cream and drinks are provided. All pupils invited for fellowship and fun.

Ennis Crafton Celebrates 9th Birthday in Hospital

Ennis Crafton aged nine, a polio patient at St Frances hospital, marked birthday last Thursday. His mother Mrs James Crafton traveled from Peoria to visit with a decorated cake prepared by Christine Johnson. Twenty six patients and nurses joined in with cake and ice cream in his room.

Forest City Homecoming planned for August 20

Forest City hosts a community Homecoming on Thursday August 20 with free entertainment prizes refreshments dancing and concessions. Headlining acts include WLS radio stars Jimmie James Phyllis Brown Dolph Hewitt and Angie Klein with both afternoon and evening programs. Chicken dinners are served at noon and 5 pm followed by free dancing from 9 to 12 pm.

Forman Schools Set August 28 Start For All Students

The Forman School District plans a first day on August 28 with half day sessions for all students at Spring Lake, Manito, and Forest City. Registration times will be in the afternoon and bus service will run after noon. The district proposes moving Junior High to two groups by area and directs Forest City and Manito students to enroll accordingly, with grade relocations to balance loads and improve instruction.
