Sydney producer Charles Wheeler explains how music substitutes for scenery in radio drama. He notes actors do not hear the music, used mainly for transitions and atmosphere, and cites examples from Wagner, Dvorak, Grieg, and Tchaikovsky. He discusses unit harmony with sound effects and the move toward music composed for specific scripts.
