Manilla Races Open With Record Crowd After 25 Year Gap

In sweltering 104 degree heat the Manilla Race Club opened after a 25 year pause drawing over 1000 spectators from Inverell to Armidale. R. H. Hawker presided at official ceremonies praising course committee head Frank Jackson and secretary P. Woolaston. Denita won the big V Byrnes Red Cross Handicap by a neck from Scarlet Knight. Brilliant Manners edged Diversion in the opening Handicap. Glandore won the Encourage Handicap with strong finish. Race dance and social events followed at Mackenzie Chambers and Memorial Hall with local officials and visitors in attendance.
