Motor-By-Passes urged by Shire Council
Shire Council has long asked landholders to voluntarily install Motor-By-Passes on ramps at public gates on public roads. Some landholders have complied, but many have not. Under Section 251A of the Local Government Act the Council can direct installation where a public gate is erected. At the latest meeting the Council decided to enforce installation of Motor-By-Passes, said Shire President Cr G S R Park.

Easter Holiday Notice Delays Express Publication
The Express will not publish on Tuesday April 7 due to the holiday. Publication resumes Friday April 10. Advertisers must submit changed copy by 5 30 pm Thursday since the usual Friday deadline is a holiday.
Ramp enforcement ordered on public roads and gates
Motorists should open and shut ramps on public roads as enforcement begins. The ramp is deemed more satisfactory and this action marks the start of enforcing installation. Landholders will be asked to repair existing ramps and public gates.

The Manilla branch of the Farmers and Settlers Association held its annual meeting at the Mechanics Institute. Officers elected for the coming year include President L. G. Bowman. Vice Presidents R. G. Coulton and H. Duprez. Treasurer G. L. Wilshire. Secretary C. D. Dowe. Delegates to conference include Litr Bowman, C. B. Dowe, R. G. Coulton, and H. Duprez. Honorariums remain at Secretary £20 7s and Treasurer £7 10s 0d.

Thieves Break Into Garage At Firm Store
The storeman W White reported a Sunday discovery of a broken back door and an opened garage. By Monday morning £16 13s 8d was missing from an office box after intruders removed iron from the rear wall. Manilla police are investigating.

St Josephs Convent pupils staged their annual Patrick’s Concert featuring the two act Grand Operetta The Rebel Maids by Rev Father Cullen. Performances included Trish Airs The Holy Lore and diverse Irish songs with Miss Carmichael Mr Hansen Miss O Connor and Margaret O Connor highlighted by dances and a mountain scene finale.
