Villagers press Education Minister to fast track two tendered portable classrooms for Manilla District Rural School as staff room overcrowding worsens. Deputy Principal Love and Headmaster Dunn urge swift action and approval of a new permanent block with classrooms and an assembly hall, noting prior Department shelving of plans.
The letter from Minister for Transport to Mr. W. A. Chaffey forwarded to the Manilla Farmers and Settlers Association states that after full investigation the railways should not carry goods below cost, with exceptions for manures milk and fruit other than canaries. The Minister regrets no alteration to the decision.
The Manilla P and C Association held its annual meeting on Wednesday. President G R Collins welcomed the new Headmaster Mr Dunn and wife to Manilla and wished them a long, happy stay. Treasurers report showed a credit of £102 13s 3d. Subscriptions totalled £8 18s 0d and donations £19 16s 6d. Concert net £66 0s 2d. Officers elected unopposed: President G R Collins, Vice Presidents J C Mackenzie and Mrs A E Coupland, Treasurer C E Dean, Secretary W L Bing ham, Auditor A J Budden. DAVIS CUP film at Palais tonight and tomorrow shows Australia’s win over America in the final rounds.
