In Manilla two motorists faced drink driving charges. Wal of Jack Nomnan Blanch, granted bond and discharged with a good behaviour bond after being found under the influence following a crash near Manilla Race Course. Ronald Maxwell Kershaw, fined for driving without a licence and under the influence after confrontations at several hotels, with leniency sought due to his age, family, and steady employment. he was given one month to pay the fines.

Thirteen remained in the hospital at April end while May treated 46 with 31 discharged and 15 still in care. Daily average 13.06. Outdoor visits included 36 new patients. Gifts to the hospital acknowledged from multiple individuals and groups including magazines, fruit, vegetables and jam.

Hospital Finances At Manilla May Debits and Payments
The Manilla Hospital closed May with a debit of £991 15s 0d after receiving £674 10s 10d and paying £1,078 13s 0d. The Minister for Health pledged £742 in funds earlier, which reduced the overall deficit as outstanding accounts were paid up to March. The May receipts, payments, and ending balance were reported to the Hospital Board by Treasurer R A Browne.

Four well known church figures, led by Rev Dr Cumming-Thom, tour northern towns for the Australian Commission for Inter-Church Aid. In Manilla they address the Presbyterian Church at 2:30 pm, host a youth tea at 5:30 pm in the Methodist Hall, and screen films at the Rural School at 8 pm. At Friday's meeting the Manilla Hospital Board of Directors reported receiving a letter of thanks from the Minister for Health, the Hon M O Sullivan. The Minister expressed thanks on behalf of himself and his party for the hospitality shown during their visit and asked Mr Veness to convey thanks to the Hospital Auxiliary women.

Australian Churches commit to aid mission work worldwide
The Australian Churches including Protestant groups pledge material aid to afflicted regions. They will provide medical supplies food and clothing and support pastors and teachers for churches. Rebuilding of church buildings and training for locals are planned as part of ongoing relief efforts extending beyond Europe to famine stricken India and refugees in Korea with a €10 million contribution noted for Europe by 1950.
