Tamworth Council Cuts Electricity Charges for Six Months
The Tamworth City Council reduces electricity charges by 10 percent from July 1 1953 due to a lower than expected bulk electricity rise and cost savings. Surplus at December 31 1953 projected at £941 10s 7d. new rates to be kept under review with 1954 estimates and potential further adjustments based on Tamworth Council's ongoing costs.

Manilla Men Escape Injury In Gosford Area Car Crash
Two Manilla men escaped serious harm when their car left the road and tipped onto its side eleven miles south of Gosford on Friday night. Driver Jack Grady suffered two broken ribs and severe shock while passenger Frank Coorey endured bruises and shock. Coorey’s son Michael was also a passenger and unharmed. After medical attention and repairs, they continued their journey.

Manilla Bowling Club Holds Annual Meeting
The Manilla Bowling Club held its annual meeting on a Saturday in the Fit on. About 50 members attended with President Byrness presiding. Treasurer Mr RB Williams reported income of £6,559 13s 5d for the year, and a bank balance of £327 19s 8d as of June 30 after capital outlay of £945 15s 0d including a cool room and new concrete ditches around the green. Election of officers named Patron C F Hayward, President W J Byrnes, vice presidents J OG J Moore and W Martin, hon Treasurer T Williams, hon Secretary A G Blanch, assistant sec JW Coupland, auditors Dean and Flynn. The Committee of 13 elected W J Byrnes, A C Blanch, J T Bignall, W J Coupland, W R Grantham, J C Moore, W Martin, C Miller, T J Price, N Scott, R M Smith, FP, R Sampson and R G Williams. Selection Committee elected A Blanch, W R Grantham and J Moore.

At the annual Manilla Club gathering on Saturday night a shield for the Pairs Championship was presented to the club by the donor. The plaque, donated by Mrs. W. Byrnes, will be known as the Charles Byrnes Memorial Shield.

New State Movement seeks council delegates for Tamworth convention
At Tuesday’s council meeting the New England New State Movement invited the council to nominate delegates for a New State Convention in Tamworth on August 20 1953. Ald Doring urged sending delegates regardless of stance. He was nominated to represent the council. The Mondona Shire Council also named two delegates Crs F R Heywood and B V Byrnes.

Hospital Statistics for Manila Hospital June report
The June statistical report shows a daily average of 13.46 patients at Manila Hospital, with 21 at month start, 33 admitted bringing total to 54 for the month, 37 discharged leaving 17 in care, and 29 new outpatients with 88 visits. Gifts acknowledged include magazines from Mrs R A Browne.
