A sale advertisement promotes Group No 2 featuring ladies winter suits and skirts offered at half price. The notice highlights discounts on selected styles with limited quantities and store details.
Readable items include hosiery fancy and service weights with specials from 9/11 to 5/11, wool gloves fabric gloves and oddments, ladies handbags elastic belts pocket diaries plastic string bags cotton reels and handkerchiefs. Assorted wool oddments and ribbons with lace remnants offered, plus earrings and brooches at greatly reduced prices.
Footwear department offers women s shoes and snow boots with large price cuts. Previous prices ranged from 60 to 75 shillings, now cleared to 45 shillings. A table of oddments shows budget prices for quick sale.
Wool Angora clots in pink green navy lemon offered by the dress department. Special 27/6 yard. 54 wool frocking in mauve saxe gold rose and black special 24/11 yard. 54 brown wool frocking special 25/11 yard. Corduroy velveteen in black only 9/11 yard.
Clothing department sale items include JANTZEN CARDIGANS in all sizes plus overcoats sports coats and morleys ravel rugs with clearances. Prices shown: lather SAFART PACK five pounds, gab overcoats nine pounds nine shillings six pence, sports coats six pounds ten shillings six pence, morleys rugs thirty nine shillings six pence, pullover sweaters twelve shillings six pence, lumber jackets forty nine shillings six pence, and gowns nineteen shillings six pence.
Furnishing department offers remnants of linoleum printed in indied and felt base from 1 to 4 yards all at big reductions. Also a suit hall runner on special 6/11 yard. Furnishing brocade beige and mushroom on special 10/3 yard. 18 inch cottage weave in blue teal for curtains spreads etc 6/11 yard special.
The Manilla Branch Australian Red Cross reports 1954 year results with 60 members up 13, ten meetings, average monthly attendance eight, receipts £361 1s 1d, payments £332 11s 5d, credit £75 3s 11d plus 16s 10d petty cash. Highlights include salvage drive £11 19s 4d, knitting items sent, a successful charity dance netting £31, and thanks to supporters and local bodies. The branch did not attend the Sydney annual conference.
A sixpence minted in 1578 is presented to Manila District Rural School through the Education Department by the Sydney Morning Herald to commemorate the visit of LM and the Duke of Edinburgh to Australia. The Herald provides a thousand such coins minted in the Tower of London during Elizabeth I’s reign. Each coin arrives in a red leather case with red velvet, includes a description of value and year, and will be displayed in the school library for public viewing.
Match results show West defeating Manilla 14 to 10 while North overcame Walcha 11 to 43. Armidale beat East 56 to 3 and Werris Creek triumphed over Oralla 9 to 4. Later rounds list strong Armidale and Werris Creek wins with Uralla upsetting? results show Werris Creek 37 over Uralla 7. Manilla faces East. North faces Armidale. Werris Creek against West. Walcha vs Uralla.
At the annual meeting of the Manilla Red Cross Society officers were elected for the coming year. President is Mrs L Macleod with vice presidents Mrs Kenny Mrs Hardcastle Mrs Bignall and Miss Winter. Hon Secretary is Mrs O D Coates. Hon Treasurer is Mrs Suttie. Hon Auditor is Mr G F B Grill.
