Sequel To L G Elections Fines For Not Voting
Twelve electors were fined an extra 1 shilling 9 pence with costs for not explaining why they did not vote in the December election. The action was by Manilla Municipal Council after 202 electors failed to record votes. Prosecuting officer was Mr D H Kennedy. Four pleaded not guilty and the cases were adjourned to 25th August.

Manilla court fines motorist for drink driving
Vernon H. Cook an electrical lines man from Manilla was fined £10 for driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The incident occurred July 16 near a Tamworth Manilla road railway crossing, where his car overturned. Inspector O Keefe stated he appeared intoxicated after the crash and admitted having several drinks. Cook claimed heavy expenses prevented repairs and noted it was his first traffic offence. The magistrate acknowledged the facts but stressed that driving under the influence and the accident could not be ignored.
