Removal of Trees Due to Dangerous Condition
A council report notes several trees in Rowan, Strafford, Court and Manilla Streets are in dangerous or doubtful condition and should be removed. Pepperinas and Silky Oaks near the Namoi River bridge are cited, with removals to be followed by replacements where appropriate. George Frederick Baker, a Cobbadah resident aged 69, died June 23 at Barabba Hospital. Born in Bundarra he lived in the Barraba district over 40 years and was a former drover and well known high jumper Fleetfoot and Mulga Boy. His wife predeceased him. he leaves four daughters and three sons Ethel Urquhart Herbert Daphne Thelma Valda Howard Morris.

Regional Station Call Sign Sparks Manilla Protest
Manilla Municipal Council plans to protest to the Australian Broadcasting Commission General Manager over the call sign of Regional Station 2M. In Tuesday's meeting Mayor Alderman Grill noted the transmitter is at Manilla and the sign should include Manilla. The issue will be raised with the Post Master General via Senator Anthony and MP D H Drummond. Previously Manilla branches of the Farmers and Settlers and Graziers associations raised the matter with the ABC but were told Tamworth must be used for all correspondence.
