Harvest wheat receipts at Manilla station top eighty eight thousand bags

Over the past week Manilla Railway station received 16 196 bags of wheat into stock, with daily totals listed. Despatched 180 bags to Granville and 114 to Newtown. Silo intake totaled 8 349 bags for the week and remains open until tomorrow. Overall season totals reach 88 669 bags at Manilla since the start.

TM Entertains Service Men's Children at Christmas Party

Almost two hundred Manila service families’ children attended the Manilla branch of the 2 TM Womens Radi Club Christmas party last Saturday. Santa Claus delivered gifts from a heavily laden tree while adults shared in refreshments. Prizes went to Mrs JO Ow Coote Miss June Peanl and Mrs G Kelly as contests added fun. The club recessed until February 1948 after a committee meeting.

Manilla Hospital Board Meeting Notes Proceedings and Finances

The Manilla Hospital Board met on a Saturday with President H V Dowe and members M Park J D Kennedy W C Maunder J N Kennedy G A White and R H Hudson present. The Matron reported 34 admissions and 34 discharges leaving 13 patients, 21 outdoor treatments, and a daily average of 10.5. Income for the month totaled £289 6s 10d with donations, ball funds, fees, subsidy, and refunds. accounts showed a credit balance of £319 14s 9d. Donations from the Kennedy Trust and Women’s Hospital Auxiliary supported the Children’s Ward linen and Christmas cheer. Tenders for bread milk groceries were accepted and subsidies and ILDA contributions noted. Discussion covered hospital tax schemes and Canberra’s hospital provisions under the uniform taxation system, with expectations of the tax being resumed nationally in the future.

Shire road works report details ongoing repairs and costs

The Engineer reported to the Shire Council on roads across the shire with delays from tractor breakdowns. Upgrades include scarifying and grading Halle Creek road the Bendemeer end, repairs to Marathon and Linton roads, and maintenance on Trunk Road 63 shoulders. Patching on Tamworth road exhausted, material shortages noted. An extra 30 drums awaited. Barraba road holes filled. Bog Hole Bridge material cost estimated at £50.
