ABC Stars of the Air: Life of Professor Heinze
The life of Professor Heinze, conductor and Melbourne University Conservatorium chair, blends music and art collecting. He hosts in a music room with two pianos and a wall of miniature portraits, preserves antique books, and winds them daily. His overseas trips fuse orchestral work with adding to a growing collection of art, china, pewter, and furniture. His home in Mornington echoes old world charm with colonial styling and green shutters. A Venice purchase nearly caused customs trouble, while a garden iris incident shows the family’s playful side.
