Florida Supreme Court declares the public has priority over dividends in rail service, mandating maintenance of roadbeds and proper public service. It states that earnings must fund maximum efficiency and that a mandamus will enforce this duty. The opinion frames railroads as trustee to the people.
The Braden River column notes continued dry weather with no rain, crops suffering though orange crops show promise. locals discuss fire protection needs and town improvements while social visits and small projects continue. A Florida court decision on rail transportation is cited from the Tallahassee Sun.
The first county court term is slated for May. Attorney John B. Singeltary becomes county solicitor and has begun his duties. H Holderman and wife of Hudsonville Ill are visiting in Mana tee for the summer. Mrs Holderman is the daughter of Mrs H L Ringo. Manatee avenue improves and funds may fund further work. Wiggins expands water mains to Pelot Cooper and Pettigrew households in Manatee.
Rumor says Maj Adams will move into the former skating rink building and open a general merchandise store with a hardware specialty. The Major is described as progressive and business minded.
Mayor John J. Pelot recently acquired the Johnson home on Main Street and has greatly improved it. When renovations finish the residence will be one of the town’s handsomest, a credit to Manatee.
Ralph B. Johnson and his wife from Bradentown were pleasant visitors to Manatee this week. Johnson used to be seen on local streets often but now married, he stays home and cannot join the old circle as before.
The Masonic lodge of Manatee stands as one of the state’s oldest yet among the youngest in vigor and progressiveness. It meets twice a month and confers one of the three degrees at each meeting.
Sheriff M. H. Wyatt is credited with actively pursuing violators and earning widespread respect from the community in Manatee County. He is described as a splendid officer whose work has impressed many friends and observed residents.
Capt. H. W. King, the bridge tender, was seen on dry land last Sunday and appeared to relish the outing as keenly as a boy with new pants. He rarely leaves his post, but when he does he makes the most of the respite.

The Seaboard Air Line railway applies all efforts to improve the extension road bed. Hundreds of new ties have been installed over the past months and the current pace promises the extension becoming the best division of the Seaboard.
Council urged to act promptly on finishing sidewalk strips along Manatee Avenue to avoid breaks on both sides. Citizens pressed property owners to build the paths, arguing it is unfair for a few to bear the cost while others are excused.

A. K. Taylor, once a Manatee County resident now living in Atlanta, is spending a few days back in the county. He plans to wed in Florida and will continue cartoon work for Tom Watson's Maga acine, the Jeffersonian. Renowned locally as a top Florida cartoonist, his visit is welcomed by friends.

Dr W D F Kelly of Demopolis Alabama recently moved to Manatee with his wife and died Saturday after a long illness. He had been in frail health for years and suffered a severe attack but hoped for improvement. complications ended his life. A respected Demopolis physician, he bought property in Manatee planning a future home. Funeral services were led by Rev A J Beck and he was buried in Manatee cemetery.
An advertisement touts Ballard's Horehound Syrup as a universal cough and pulmonary cure. U S H Horton Kansas claims rapid relief, saying no medicine cures as quickly. J M Samuel sells the remedy.
The Record notes that the Seaboard Air Line promised depot grounds would be improved months ago but no work has started. With rain returning, the depot could be surrounded by water, and the town council should press the railroad for action.
Advertisement urges readers to visit Dr J M Samuel's drug store to obtain a free sample of Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets. Praises ease of use and pleasant effects, claiming they correct disorders of the stomach liver and bowels.
No post office box may be used until rent is paid. Box rents are due at the start of each quarter or pro rata if rented after the quarter begins. Ten days before quarter end masters must place a bill in each rented box for receipt upon payment. Unrenewed boxes are closed and mail sent to general delivery.
A regional editor extols the Manatee River area as Florida’s natural gem and urges local progress to attract winter tourists. He compares other thriving points, laments inadequate preparedness, and calls for beautification and expanded hotels to capture tourist revenue within a few years.
