A Florida reader defines a kicker as a knocker. The writer lambastes persistent critics who denigrate public progress without facts, calling them vulgar and untrustworthy while noting Manatee County has only a few such critics and expressing pride in their scarcity.
Sheriff Wyatt planned two sales but one was blocked by court order and the other held privately. Clerk Robt H Roesch failed to execute his sale, the prior sale standing. Woodson Joyner conducted a household goods sale in front of the courthouse to avoid default.
The Excelsior Ice Company began producing frozen goods last Friday after testing its plant. Frost was achieved and products are ready, promising lower ice prices and daily deliveries including Sundays.
Chas Pelot and six companions fished the cattle-gap bulkhead last Friday and landed a monster mullet after a long bite. The six anglers including the editor watched the reel sing to a 2:40 pace as the fish was finally beached.
The delinquent tax list has arrived at the printer. It will appear this week in the Palmetto News. The sale will be on the first Monday in August. Taxpayers may still pay their taxes to Tax Collector Alex Roesch but must cover the advertising costs.

Supt. W M Rowlett presents the annual fiscal report for the year ending June 30 1907 showing the general fund deficit cut to 915 49 and total school property valued at 41 067 00. Board appropriations for buildings totaled 4 848 77 with receipts 24 127 48 and teacher salaries 17 761 25. Seventy teachers taught forty six schools with 1 874 pupils 1 635 white and 289 colored. The Board also notes a potential one mill millage cut in future estimates.
The Medical Society of Manatee County met in Manatee Tuesday morning and continued in session until 8 o clock in the afternoon discussing malaria. Papers read by Drs. Jones Pelot Harrison Gates Halton McDuffee were discussed. a banquet followed in the Masonic hall with gopher chowder and farm items. next meeting set for Bradenton.
A special meeting of Local Manatee Socialist party is set at the residence of A. J. Pettigrew Monday at 7 30 PM. E D Barker state committeeman urges attendance for good news and other important business.
