The Gates celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their Church Street home on December 20 1906. Over a hundred guests attended the gala event with gold theme decor and many handsome gifts including a gold headed walking cane presented by eleven friends.

Manatee Cigar Factory owned by E. P. Lloyd reports 85000 cigars produced in 1906. Lloyd says output could have been higher with greater force and aims to double production if possible this year.

Robbed Railroad Office at Ellenton Last Week

The Ellenton depot was entered during the night and $75 in cash and a pistol were stolen from the desk. A watchman’s lapse allowed a dyke leak in Holland to worsen. At the December 26 meeting directors praised growth and announced a 5 percent dividend plus $7000 added to the surplus fund. The bank is described as a leading substantial institution in the state. A drug-store promotion offers Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets for free samples.

Pioneer settler Louisa Tresca dies after long illness

Mrs Louisa Ellen Tresca died December 28 1906 after four months of cancer suffering. A pioneer linked to Manatee River country she came from Tallahassee in 1848 with Edwin Ware later marrying Capt Fredric Tresca. She leaves two children from Ware and four or five children from Tresca, with only Rev Wm B Tresca surviving. She is buried beside her second husband in the Manatee cemetery.

Sea board restores Manatee passenger service in full schedule

The old Sea board schedule for the Manatee section is back in operation with a revived double daily passenger service. After trains were diverted to freight and late by hours daily the public protested to officials and The Record notes the restored, superior passenger schedule now in place. The Seaboard line has long supported the Land of the Manatee and invested heavily in advertising the area.

Braden River Bridge Construction Starts Under County Oversight

Commissioner J. B. Wyatt ordered the Braden River bridge and S. E. Pulliam builds it under Wyatt’s direction. Fill to the first island is complete, about three hundred feet long, and piling deliveries are nearly finished. Work is expected to begin on the bridge itself soon at the old Aiken saw mill site.

The cold wave hit Manatee County from Monday night to Thursday morning. Most oranges were picked, sparing losses, while young citrus and vegetables suffered but showed signs of recovery.
