The Gates celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their Church Street home on December 20 1906. Over a hundred guests attended the gala event with gold theme decor and many handsome gifts including a gold headed walking cane presented by eleven friends.
Expressions of appreciation and tokens of love flow from friends and relatives after the golden wedding of Rev. Ek. F. Gates and his wife. The couple send best wishes for a happy New Year and a prosperous life. J. Gates of Manatee, IH agent, reports stock on hand including a half car of two horse Deering Mowers and six foot self dumping rakes.
Manatee Cigar Factory owned by E. P. Lloyd reports 85000 cigars produced in 1906. Lloyd says output could have been higher with greater force and aims to double production if possible this year.
A. E. Stebbins advertises a surplus of Rhode Island Red roosters below prize strain quality from the state fair. The dealer warns buyers to reserve eggs for hatching in a few weeks and to contact promptly to secure stock.
The Ellenton depot was entered during the night and $75 in cash and a pistol were stolen from the desk. A watchman’s lapse allowed a dyke leak in Holland to worsen. Kenneth Melver of Vanceboro Maine avoided tragedy from a neglected cold thanks to Dr King’s New Discovery. Trial bottle free at J M Samuel’s drug store.
At the December 26 meeting directors praised growth and announced a 5 percent dividend plus $7000 added to the surplus fund. The bank is described as a leading substantial institution in the state. A drug-store promotion offers Chamberlain's Stomach and Liver Tablets for free samples.
Mrs Louisa Ellen Tresca died December 28 1906 after four months of cancer suffering. A pioneer linked to Manatee River country she came from Tallahassee in 1848 with Edwin Ware later marrying Capt Fredric Tresca. She leaves two children from Ware and four or five children from Tresca, with only Rev Wm B Tresca surviving. She is buried beside her second husband in the Manatee cemetery.
A Farmville Virginia man claims twenty years of suffering from chronic piles and malignant sores ended after using Bucklen's Arnica Salve. He reports complete cures and urges trials for old ulcers, cuts, burns and wounds with a 25 cent price at J M Samuel druggist.

Tampa based firm led by Timothy Scully plans a twenty five ton ice plant near Bradenton depot. An immediate ice storage facility will precede construction and aims to end local ice famines once the factory opens. The Bradenton move follows a county fire that destroyed the previous ice plant.
An advertisement touts Ballard's Snow Liniment as superior for rheumatism stiff joints cuts sprains and pains. It urges trial with a 25c 50c and 1.00 price scale and notes sale by J. M. Samuel.
A Missouri Democrat item reports Mrs. Fannie Thomas praised for rapid pupil progress in second grade and tireless effort. She explains in a letter she and her family regret leaving the Braden River area and expect to return home soon.
A vintage medicinal advertisement claims Dr King’s New Life Pills awaken torpid livers and unblock bowels. It touts prevention of appendicitis and system toning. Sold for 25 cents at J M Samuel’s drug store.
The old Sea board schedule for the Manatee section is back in operation with a revived double daily passenger service. After trains were diverted to freight and late by hours daily the public protested to officials and The Record notes the restored, superior passenger schedule now in place. The Seaboard line has long supported the Land of the Manatee and invested heavily in advertising the area.
Horton Kansas resident T OC Horton's letter claims Ballard's Horehound Syrup cures coughs influenza and pulmonary diseases quickly. The ad notes J M Samuel as the seller and praises the medicine as a record smashing remedy.
Commissioner J. B. Wyatt ordered the Braden River bridge and S. E. Pulliam builds it under Wyatt’s direction. Fill to the first island is complete, about three hundred feet long, and piling deliveries are nearly finished. Work is expected to begin on the bridge itself soon at the old Aiken saw mill site.
R M Glazier, agent in Manatee, promotes Standard Brand fertilizer as the safe choice with consistently satisfactory results.
Manatee River Royal Arch Masons elected officers for the new year at a meeting last Friday night. High Priest S. E. Curry heads the list with Chas. T. Curry as King and W. A. Lathrop as Scribe. Appointments included M. O. Thomas Captain of Host and J. J. Stewart Principal Sojourner. Banquet planned for January 11 at the first meeting night.
The cold wave hit Manatee County from Monday night to Thursday morning. Most oranges were picked, sparing losses, while young citrus and vegetables suffered but showed signs of recovery. Old seedling trees survived, leaves shed but no lasting damage. Grove property values rose as growers pulled groves off the market or raised prices.
