Homecoming Royalty Caps Fremont Mills Week

Kay Harshbarger and Bill Aistrope crowned homecoming king and queen after a Friday main street celebration. Coaches and sponsors led a pregame tailgate and chili supper by the Future Homemakers of America. A coronation and dance followed Saturday with Dennis Allinsworth emceeing and Rhythm Aires providing music. Attendants included Rose Turner, Tom Pierce, Myrna McMillen, Linda Hatfield, Sharon Turner.

Malvern Band Heads to State Contest at Shenandoah

About 50 Malvern High School musicians travel to Shenandoah on Saturday October 14 for the eight marching band contest. They practice at 7:30 am and 7 pm plus weekly hour sessions Tuesday and Thursday. Past results include 1958 II 198% 1949 IT.

Vocal Music Teacher's Clinic at Clarinda

Iowa high school music teachers attended a vocal music clinic in Clarinda. Br Daniel Moe of the University of Iowa led pointers for the Clarinda High School chorus, small groups and soloists. Clinics are annual with four in the state, held October 2 and 3 in four regions.

Malvern Senior Earns National Merit Commendation

Malvern high school honors Lowell D. Mc Millén, senior class president, for high performance on the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Principal Mr Nothem announced that about 25,000 students nationwide receive Letters of Commendation, with Lowell being the second Malvern student to win the award after Kathy Burdie.

Jensen Invited to Speak at Veterans Conference in Missouri Valley

Iowa's 6th District Veterans of World War One plan a conference at Knights of Columbus Hall near J C Penney on Sunday. Congressman Ben F Jensen is invited as guest speaker to support HR 3745 proposing a 30 percent pension increase for eligible World War One veterans and widows with 90 days service.

Loyal Lassies Gip Silver City Club Outing and Meeting

Loyal Lassies met at the Methodist Church in Silver City and traveled to Glenwood for supper then watched Absent Madied Profes sor. Their next regular meeting was August 28 at the Silver City church. Thirteen members, 12 mothers, two leaders and guests were present. A shower greeted the leader after the business. Refreshments were by Sandra Brewer and Vicki Elwood with mothers Mrs Ralph Brewer and Mrs Gordon Elwood serving.
