Emersonians and others are invited to the annual Thanksgiving eve community union service next Wednesday at 7 30 p.m. in the Emerson Baptist church. The service will include a Thanksgiving sermon and special music.
The booster station employees held their monthly coffee at the community building with Mrs. George Jones and others in attendance. Henderson visitors Mr. and Mrs. Virsit Morris joined Mr. and Mrs. Bert Morris the previous night. Frank Reps and John Finley hosted Sunday dinner guests. F. R. Birdsall spent the weekend in Council Bluffs with the Birdsall family. Roger Peters and Omaha visitors were seen in town.
The Martha Circle of the WSCS meets next Wednesday afternoon at 2 pm with Mrs. W. R. Johnson. The Esther Circle meets with Mrs. Heber Willger at the same time. The Ruth and Naomi night circles meet Tuesday night at 8 pm with Mrs. C. J. Blank and Mrs. Harold Sowers respectively.
A sequence of social visits spans Red Oak and nearby towns. Clarence Burns and others from Red Oak Griswold and Elliott called on Tom Brown. Wes tenburg family left for Germany. Emily Huntsman Emory DeWitt visited. Suzann Evans returned home after a stay with the Moody Evans family. Several families hosted and joined Sunday dinners at John Govig and other local homes.
The Emerson First Baptist Church invites members to Sept Sunday School at 10 a.m. and Morning Worship at 11 a.m. Thanksgiving meditation titled Altars of Thankfulness. Monday 7:30 p.m. Teacher Training Course concludes. Wednesday 8 p.m. Union Thanksgiving Eve Service fellowship invite.
The Emerson Women's Club met at the Baptist church with 24 members. Devotions were led by Mrs. Anna Salmons and included a reading of the 100th Psalm. Mrs. Houghton from Red Oak spoke on "Women of the World" after a district convention report and yearbook award. Refreshments followed.
Emerson Junior Auxiliary met at the Legion hall at 4 p m Monday. Girls made turkey nut cups for a Red Oak home and learned flag care from Mrs. Vernon Johnson. Drawings will be judged. eligible girls may join via Mrs. Sam Winters or Mrs. Fred Edie. Next meeting December 17 features a 30 cent grad bag gift exchange.
Ralph Russell, minister, leads Sunday services at Emerson Methodist Church with 9 55 a m Sunday School and 11 05 a m Morning Worship. Attendees from Emerson and Hastings join a Churchmanship dinner at Atlantic Methodist Church. WSCS met, devotions led by Lucile Russell, program by Margaret Larson. Junior Choir and Intermediate MYF meet midweek. Official Board meets 8 00 p m. A Thanksgiving turkey dinner planned for Nov 25. sanctuary redecorated with thanks to Christian stewards and helpers.
Mrs Whit Shepard and others visited Oma ha and nearby towns this week. Mrs Carrie Colie fell outside her home about 6 30 a m Saturday and sustained a broken knee she was taken to Red Oak hospital. Phillip Plummer and Phyllis of Carson joined Bert Morris home for Sunday visits. The Chastains and Ora Franks Jr visited Henry Burmeister in Red Oak. Bob Stille and family attended the wedding of Jack Ross and Mary Jane McFarland in Omaha Friday night.
Funeral services were held at the Climax Methodist church for Mrs. Roy Shoemaker on Friday November 9 1962. The Rev William Fry conducted the service. Charlotte May Morse born May 3 1885 near Percival Iowa taught in country schools and held clerical posts in Detroit Pittsburgh and Omaha where she met Roy B Shoemaker whom she married September 3 1921. Survived by husband two daughters Mrs Donald Eastwood and Mrs Eugene Carlson two grandchildren and a brother Fred Morse. Burial in Walnut Cemetery. Mrs Shoemaker had lived near Climax for several years and was active in Sunday School.
The Hillsdale Church Official Board met to discuss a December Family Night and set the church Christmas program for December 23. Rev. LeRoy Pullman led prayer as secretary Janette Hunt Blackburn's resignation was read amid committee reports and future activities announced.
Hillsdale correspondent notes visits among neighbors near Malvern and Emerson. Families gather for dinners, birthdays, and hospital news as Rural Improvement Club plans meet at Hillsdale Church on Nov 21 with local hosts and leaders. Thanksgiving message and church notes close the week with well wishes.
The Wayne Hilton and Bur dette Hunt families hosted monthly Family Night at Hillsdale Church. About 35 attended a cooperative supper at 7. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Kelly presented colored slides of Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, the Black Hills and local scenes, followed by religious pictures.
