Betrothal announced for Verlee Thraen and John Henry

Mrs. Golden Thraen of Harlan announces the engagement of her daughter Verlee Thraen of Iowa Falls to John Henry of Green Creek New Jersey son of the late Mr and Mrs Ed Henry. Verlee is a graduate of Harlan Community High School and Northwest Missouri State University. She taught first grade at Chantry Elementary in Malvern for four years and now teaches second grade at Blanche Stoddard Elementary in Iowa Falls. John Henry is a graduate of Middle Township High School at Cape May Court House and works as a light equipment operator with the Cape May County Road Department. A June 25 wedding at St Michaels Catholic Church in Harlan is planned.

Mills County Extension Service sponsors a series of workshops titled Heritage Arts for Today's Living. The program aims to teach basic steps of crafts once perfected by ancestors. It notes settlers sought to recreate familiar furnishings and ornaments in new homes using available materials.

Mills County American Legion and Auxiliary reschedule to November 30 due to a workshop at Neola Legion Hall. County meeting moves to Emerson Community building with a potluck at 4 30 and meeting at 7 30. Neola Workshop is Dutch Treat. chicken dinner cost two dollars fifty cents. Commanders and Presidents should send post estimates to Harold Neumann by November 24. Last year 80 attended in Grenwood. organizers hope for more.

A workshop for choir directors on Advent and Christmas music was attended October 19 in Council Bluffs by Mrs. Mary Pottes and Miss Julie Elston of Glenwood First Christian church and Mrs. Charles Cowell with Ann Beckwith of Malvern United Methodist. The session was led by Max Exner, Iowa State University Extension Music Specialist, who plans another workshop.

The Southwest Iowa Area on March 22 hosts a workshop. Churches or choir directors should contact Mills County Extension Office to be notified of the workshop location and plans, as stated by County Extension Director LaVerne Obrecht.
