Northwestern Bell seeks 10 percent rate hike by December
Northwestern Bell asked the Iowa Commerce Commission for permission to raise rates in Iowa, totaling about 19.989 million dollars or 10 percent. Some increases like a 10-cent local coin phone rise and certain long distance changes would take effect in 1975. About half of the funds, roughly 10 million, would go to federal and state taxes. CEO Jack A. MacAllister cited inflation and investments, noting 1973 plans to spend 92 million and over 107 million in 1974–75 to improve service, with rural and business rate bumps ranging from 65 cents to over 3 dollars monthly plus related charges.
