Nishna Valley School News Honors 33 on NY Nine Weeks

Nishna Valley Community high lists 33 on the first nine weeks honor roll. Freshmen and seniors lead with 10 each, earning honor roll by B or higher in four core subjects, while four Bs across three subjects with a C minimum earns honorable mention.// Names appear in the list across freshmen sophomores juniors and seniors with additional honors noted.

Seniors Sell Candy and Nuts for Skip Day Fun

Nishna Valley seniors sold candy and mixed nuts during the week of Friday Oct 26 to raise funds for their spring senior skip day. Each student received five boxes of candy five cans of mixed nuts and decorations for Christmas packages, with prices set at one dollar for candy and nuts and a discount for decorations.

History Classes Make Charts

Mrs. Doubleday's two world history classes kept busy last Tuesday and Thursday making charts on the religions of the world. Each class built a large chart listing all religions with sections for the head, God, ruler, holy book, holy places, beliefs, symbol, and church names.

A correction states that I met the Honor Society rather than the Student Council as reported last week. The update clarifies the distinct groups involved and corrects the previous attribution.

Literature Class Finds Macbeth Hard to Understand

English literature students study Macbeth and struggle with the plot yet recognize Shakespeare's skill in creating believable scenes. A recording of the play may be listened to if possible to aid understanding.

New Science and Math Equipment Boost at NV High

Nishna Valley high school purchases 2500 dollars of new science gear for chemistry physics and biology including an electrostatic machine a nuclear sniffer and biology models. Mathematics receives 150 dollars of equipment such as a trigonometry chart and geometric objects to enhance geometry and practical understanding. The additions will expand hands on experiments and practical science views for students.

Nishna Valley Hosts Pep Rally Before South Page Game

Nishna Valley students held a pep rally Friday ahead of their game with South Page. Mr. Mercer spoke, cheerleaders led yells, Judy Geith and Sue Ann Simpson performed four skits, and the pep band played the school song. The student body is praised for attendance and urged to continue supporting the team.

Junior High Student Council Formed at NV

Nishna Valley Community junior high elected a two delegate per home room to form the student council for the rest of the year. Seventh graders Dennis Boileau Patty Johnson Darlene Sandquist Linnea Johnson. eighth graders Marsha Palmer Don Hascall Joe Lees Joan Lindburg. Palmer elected president Lees vice president Lindburg secretary.

Four FTA Members Attend State Meeting in Council Bluffs

Four Nishna Valley FTA students attended the statewide meeting in Council Bluffs with sponsor Mrs. Vera Dittus. Lillian Irvin June Queen Janet Huntsman and Susan Woodfill joined Monticello FTA hosts for the event attended by 120 members. A luncheon and talks preceded the afternoon election of statewide FTA officials.

NN Centers Prepare for Crisis

NN Centers issue emergency plan letters as a Cuban crisis precaution. Superintendent Doubleday says students will be taken to the school nearest their home for pickup, or sent to their attendance center if transport is unavailable. Food and water will be stocked for a three day period.

NV Junior High Used Clothing Drive Nov 5 8

The period of Nov 5 to has been declared Save the Children Federation Bundle Days and students of Nishna Valley Junior High collect good used clothing for needy children and parents in the southern mountain regions of the United States and elsewhere. Principal Clen Adkins notes six million children participate nationwide to aid mountains regions Mexico and other areas. Contact the school in Emerson Henderson Hastings or Strahan to arrange clothing pickup during the drive days.

Freshmen Hay Ride and Wiener Roast at Woodfill

Freshman class, after raising funds by selling candy, held a Saturday night hay ride. About 20 students gathered in Emerson at 6:30 p m, rode to Goldie Maixon's timber, where they roasted wieners and marshmallows, and drank pop. They returned by 10:15 p m as parents collected the children.

Funeral attendance and visits in Silver City area

Sun day gatherings included Mr and Mrs Roy Pullman and others visiting near Malvern. funeral services for Charles Page at Silver City Methodist church drew attendees from Buffalo Wyoming and Omaha. Mrs Page is a Windle relative. Additional callers were Charley Alexander Iva Henderson Whitesides Swayze and families.

Ralph Tacketts host monthly card club gathering

The Ralph Tacketts hosted the monthly card club Saturday evening with all members present except Fay Mayberrys. At a late hour they enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches baked beans potato chips pumpkin pie coffee and kid.
