East Liberty Harvest Sale Cleared Nearly 500 Friday

Members and friends of Fort Liberty church enjoyed their annual Harvest Dinner and sale last Friday aided by visitors from Spokane Shenandoah Avoca and Malvern. Receipts totaled 449.92 with 1229.01 from the sale and 117.00 in cash donations plus 74.02 from bazaar produce and flowers. A grateful acknowledgment was offered to all contributors.

East Liberty Church Service Reports Lay Leader Role

East Liberty Sunday service led by lay leader Mrs Hale Henderson with a solo by Rev W W Watson and a sermon from the Pharisee and publican Bible story. Harvest dinner and WSCS chair changes at Strahan church

Me and Mrs Stotts traveled to Strahan for the annual harvest dinner at the Methodist church. In Glenwood news Mrs Mayberry and others hosted WSCS with a new president Mrs Hays and new vice president Mrs Lester Henderson. A chicken dinner fundraiser and bazaar are planned with donations urged including used cards and clothing for Tidwell Home and a New Mexico home.

District and Audubon Meet for Retarded Children

A southwest Iowa district educational meeting of the Towa Association for Retarded Children will be held in Audubon on November 4 at 1 30 in the Audubon elementary school activity room. Registration is 1 to 1 30 per person or 1 30 per couple. Speakers Mrs James Henderson Iowa Association president and Lyman L Samo education committee chair will discuss the organizations aims and programs for retarded children and answer questions about legislation research publicity and sources of help. Attendance urged to learn about the mental retardation problem and ongoing efforts.

Local families gather for visits across towns in Iowa

Florence Cooper and Charles Walker move in and out of Red Oak hospital. Emerson Women's Club schedules a Baptist church meeting for 2:30 p.m. next Tuesday.

Pvt Danny Shaw Begins Six Month Active Training

Army private Daniel M. Shaw son of Mr and Mrs Dwight C Shay of Smiersetn has started six months of active duty training. The training period will cover extensive military instruction and field exercises.

Silver Creek Go Getters Hold Family Night

The Silver Creek Go Getters met Oct. 16 at the Foxworthy Schoolhouse with 22 members and 20 guests. Patty Newell and John Riley will be new members. A committee led by Douglas Dushier, Donald Hopp and Hilly Scott was appointed to plan this year’s program with help from the president and parents. Record books and new T shirts were distributed. Refreshments of daughters and cider were served by Turners and Grindles, Lilly Scott.

18-year-old joins reserves drills at Fort Leonard Wood

Fort Leonard Wood, Mio, under the Reserves Forces Act, Shaw begins eight weeks of basic combat training then advanced individual and unit training. Men volunteering for a six month active duty tour may complete their obligation in local Army Reserve or National Guard units. The 18-year-old graduate of Emerson High School this year.
