Mrs Warren To Hospital For Appendicitis Operation
Mrs. Warren was transported Wednesday afternoon on No 3 to an Omaha hospital for an appendicitis operation when physically able. She was taken by cot and accompanied by her husband a nurse and several relatives. She has been very ill for three weeks and is hoped to find relief.
Winter’s hard season slams local clover fields
Clover Winter told townsfolk Saturday that severe winter killed much tame grass with clover in a bad state near the county line. He reported clover fields in bed shape, timothy less affected, some alfalfa damaged where unprotected, worsening meadow grass and pasture shortages.

Benjamin Franklin Dunagan a longtime Glenwood resident died March 21 1917 after a long illness at his home in Glenwood Iowa He was 67 years old He was a farmer in Center Township later moved to town and lived there with his wife Sarah Martin Dunagan They had five children four living at the time of his death He was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church and the Odd Fellows Lodge The community expresses deep sympathy to his widow and four children who lost a good husband and father Funeral services were held at the Methodist church conducted by Rev William Stevenson with Odd Fellows in regalia leading the procession to the cemetery

A large Malvern gathering at the Commercial Club rooms formed the Laymen's Union to promote Christian living and work. Officers named include President W P Wortman and Secretary J W McNulty, with an executive committee to follow up on bylaws and membership enrollment. Death of Rev. Frank Caldwell at 60 in Des Moines
Rev. Frank Eugene Caldwell died March 15 at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines after prolonged illness. He had served as pastor of the Malvern Methodist church for three years until September 1915 and later preached in Beaconsfield. Services were held in Des Moines and Boone with Rev. Stevenson and Rev. Holmes officiating, and burial at Linwood cemetery. Caldwell, born December 20, 1854 in Brookville Pennsylvania, moved to Boone as a child and later worked in banking and groceries before entering church service in Boone.

Pastor Caldwell Dies After Long Service in Iowa Met Church
The Des Moines conference of the Methodist Episcopal church mourns the death of a longtime pastor who served twenty one years in Iowa cities including Mt. Pleasant, Council Bluffs, Sidney, Malvern, Ankeny, and Beaconsfield. He married Margaret Porter of Scottdale in 1881 and leaves a wife, son Fred P Caldwell, three brothers, and three sisters. He joined Masonic and other fraternal groups, with past master titles in Mount Olive lodge and Tuscan chapter and membership in Modern Woodmen.

Death and Funeral of Claude Comer in Tulare
Claude Comer, born December 28, 1883 in Shenandoah and moved to Tulare in 1913, died when a car plunged over a mountain road on March 8. The funeral in Tulare drew a large crowd, with a six block procession, Methodist service, floral tributes, and a 28 piece band, as locals and officials observed a city-wide day of mourning.

Elevator Burns at Henderson in Devastating Fire
Henderson, March 27 A disastrous blaze destroyed W. H. Harbor’s new elevator and its contents. About 4,200 bushels of first class heat, 6,800 bushels of corn, 1,000 bushels of oats, and machinery were lost. The structure, built a decade ago, was insured and Harbor plans to rebuild fireproof. The cause remains a mystery with flames starting on the exterior.
