Buffington Heads Simpson College Fund Program
Frank Buffington of Glenwood is named Mills county chairman for Simpson College New Century Fund as alumni, parents, and friends plan a March 28 information meeting at Glenwood Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The drive has raised nearly 1.38 million in cash and pledges toward a new library, chapel, and women's dormitory, with endowment growth in the second phase. Enrollment rose from 385 to 744 in eight years. Simpson gains attention for its Vital Center and East Meets West programs featured on Voice of America and Time magazine. Attendees from Mills County include David Thomas, Lavina Alberts, Mrs Kay Hoffman, and Richard Schow.

F. E. Howard, a former Malvern area resident, died Tuesday in a Colorado Springs rest home at age 93. native of Michigan, he moved with his parents to Mills County, farmed near Malvern, and retired 20 years ago. Survived by two sons Lyle and Edwin, daughter Arline, two grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several siblings. Services Friday at 2 p.m. Raynor-Hamilton funeral home Glenwood. interment Silver City cemetery.

Pvt Nelson in eight weeks artillery training at Fort Carson
Pvt Thomas D. Nelson, 23, husband of Delores Nelson of Malvern, is completing eight weeks of advanced individual artillery training at Fort Carson Colorado. He will qualify as a recannoneer after mastering loading, firing and maintenance of the 105 millimeter howitzer. Nelson enlisted in November 1961 and is a 1957 graduate of Strahan Consolidated High School.

Two Men Charged With False Check Drawing
Charles Hopkinson of Pacific Junction and Maurice Porter of Tabor appeared this past week before Justice Carl Remley charged with false drawing of a check. Hopkinson got two days in jail. Porter was fined five dollars and costs. Virgil Anderson of Overland Kansas was fined fifteen dollars and costs for improper passing. Short Course at Ames Monday and Tuesday.
