Emerson WSCS Names New Officers Life Members
Emerson WSCS met at the Methodist church on March 15 with Mrs. Florence Patton presiding. Devotions were by Mrs. Janet Spicer and a lesson by Mrs. Margaret Larson. Names of new circle chairmen and life members were announced, including elected officers and committee heads. A fellowship lunch followed with numerous volunteers serving. An upcoming district meeting is planned for April 4 at Broadway Methodist in Council Bluffs, and April 3 fellowship events are scheduled.

Funeral Services Held for Estella Sawyers in Glenwood
Estella Alice Sawyers, born near Hillsdale in 1874, daughter of Addison and Eliza Rains Utterback, lived in Dodge City and Glenwood. She married Alonzo Sawyers in 1890 and had three sons Hershal, Evert, and Frank, later moving to a farm near Emerson. She died March 29 after a stroke, aged 78, survived by two sons, four grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. services conducted at Raynor Hamilton Chapel with interment in Lenwood Cemetery.

Emerson Baptist Church Plans Special Services
Reverend Dennis DeHaan of Walnut Grove Baptist Chapel in Council Bluffs will speak at the First Baptist Church of Emerson from April 1 to 8 with nightly inspirational messages and special music. DeHaan, a Michigan native, is a Northern Baptist Seminary graduate and nephew of Dr M R DeHaan of Radio Bible Class. Services start at 7:30 PM each evening except Saturday. All are welcome.

Rites March 14 for A. F. Smith at Emerson
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Emerson for Albert F. Smith with Rev. Willis E. Grant officiating. Burial was in Emerson cemetery. pallbearers and florists named. Smith, born June 24, 1881 at David City Nebraska, died March 11 after a year of illness. He moved from David City to Mills County in 1893 and Emerson in 1927. survived by wife Clara, two daughters, two sons, five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and one sister. funeral details noted with memory of a devoted husband and grandfather.

N V Chemists Learn of Batteries at Carbon Plant
Susan Woodf reports a Co operative weather class trip to Red Oak to tour the Carbon Plant. Students learned magnesium oxide and saltamaniac are used in battery manufacture. Batteries are built from assembled cells and packed strictly. the visit boosted interest though conduct on return was lively.

Ellis Retires as Post Office Clerk Saturday
Arthur Ellis retired from his post office clerk duties with the announcement noting that ballots will be taken by those who wish to handle the work. The retirement marks a change in local postal administration as the community considers next steps.
Funeral services for A G Knosp held in Red Oak
A G Knosp died March 15 after a heart condition. Funeral services were held March 19 at Sellergren Funeral Home Red Oak with Rev Willis F Grant officiating. Pallbearers included E E Cole John Thorson Lansing Hever Clarence Hogsle Leonard Peterson and Horace Greenwood. Burial in Red Oak Cemetery. He was born July 13 1880 in Germany and lived in Emerson Red Oak and Omaha. He married Naomi Purcell June 10 1908 and had a daughter Eangeline who died in 1933. He was a retired farmer and a member of Emerson Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife and many friends.
