Two Mills County highway crashes caused extensive damage on New Year’s Day. Charles Bare, 17, Malvern, wrecked a 1957 Chevrolet when it struck a fence and a light pole after losing control at 3:20 a.m. Gary Wade Wood, 18, Glenwood, driving a 1964 Rambler, was blinded by oncoming lights and struck a bridge at 1:30 p.m. Marland Gammon, 18, Pacific Junction, a passenger, suffered minor injuries.

Peace Corps Test Set for January ninth nationwide
The Peace Corps Placement Test will be held at 8 30 a m Saturday January 9 at the main post office in Council Bluffs with about 800 other centers nationwide. No registration is required and applicants may bring a completed Questionnaire. Two test parts exist general aptitude and a language aptitude test no foreign language knowledge needed. The test lasts about 90 minutes with an extra hour for the language option. Scores are not released. Applicants must be American citizens at least 18 and married couples may apply if they have no dependents under 18. A college degree is not required but helpful.
