PBK Award set for Malvern High Thursday
Malvern Community High will receive a plaque for scholarship at a public presentation next Thursday January 14 at 10 am in the Community building. Dr Arthur Barnes Alpha chapter president will present the award to the school for its three 1963 graduates Lara Beckwith Nancy Lisle and Patricia Newell who excelled at University of Iowa freshman year. Malvern Band Mothers elect new president and officers
Mrs. Kenneth Scott was named president of the Malvern Band Mothers club at its organization meeting held Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Sam Benscoter’s home. She succeeds Mrs. Gladys Leipold with Mrs. August Ponton as secretary and Mrs. Earl Bass as treasurer. The group plans to purchase new band uniforms, using funds from dinners and magazine sales. Estimated complete uniforms cost about $100, with hats usable at about $15 savings per unit. a Band Mother committee will work with school officials to line up the purchase. The design features black pants and jackets with an orange overlay.

NV Regional Voc Ed Meet Set At Nishna Valley High
Nishna Valley will host a regional meeting for the Division of Vocational Education to discuss implementing the Vocational Education Act of 1963 in Iowa. Contracts let for two Highway 34 structures total about 275000 dollars. Des Moines firms win bids for the Silver Creek bridge and the Burlington overhead girders. M Cohran & Son, Inc. bid 69921.30 for the Silver Creek bridge a 192 ft 6 in long pre stressed concrete structure. The overhead is 349 ft 6 in long and costs 205410.89 dollars.

Paul Nicklaus of Madison Wisconsin was fined ten dollars and costs for disturbing the peace by Justice of the Peace John Hail. Nicklaus was arrested last New Year’s night by Marshal W. Rich for throwing glass into the street.

Fire destroys hog houses at Leipold Farm near Malvern
Malvern firemen were called early Saturday to the Leipold Farm of Mrs. Martin Leipold north of Malvern where flames destroyed one permanent hog house and three portable units. Five and pigs were also lost in the blaze.

Mills County banks report a peak total deposits of 15,472,940.80 at year end, aided by soybeans and a strong corn harvest, with per capita deposits averaging 1,500.
