Christmas Tree Safety Tips From Iowa Health Dept

The Iowa State Health Department offers holiday tree safety guidance. Choose a freshly cut tree kept outside until setup, keep its base in water, place in a cool room, and away from heat sources. Anchor the tree with wire, inspect lights, repair insulation, and keep bulbs above branches. Use fixed extension cords, avoid fusing overload, turn off lights when leaving or sleeping, and unplug rather than twisting a bulb.
