Sunday merzing December 23 Emerson churches present two special Christmas programs The First Baptist Church of Emer gee hosts The Light of Christmas featuring student and senior choirs with organ music and special performances by junior members and local musicians from Eames area.
Local Emerson items mention a lawyers correspondent and a social at the Husisman home for a birthday. Mrs Afrs Be He bos na noted among attendees, with scattered fragments leaving many names and places unreadable.
A locally noted appointment lists Alice Gipe as Matron of the C. E. S. The text also notes various family visits and travel updates including Cecil Ballain and family from Plattsmouth Nebraska and Alfred Hale with Mrs. Hale. Additional mentions include Don Demotts of Shenandoah and Nubee of Nebraska City as Sunday guests at C. L. Ballain’s home.
Emarsen First Baptist Church at Gick with Pastor Robert Good conducts a Saturday program practice at 8 20 a m on December 15 followed by Sunday School at 10 a m and Morning Worship. The meditation titled The Road to is noted.
Emerson Methodix Church and Hastings Methodist hold morning worship at 11 05 with Sunday school at 9 55 and WACS midweek gatherings. Missionary Study group parsonage session and two circle meetings plan events while an offering supports the Gideons with Hastings and Emerson contributions and a joint Naomi Ruth gathering for a Christmas grab bag exchange.
Emerson MYF held a Sunday banquet at the church with hydro-foamed wax figure decorations. Linda Johnson and Sue Ann Simpson led songs while Sharon Eastwood greeted attendees. Jan Ridgeway of Council Bluffs shared Europe Girl Scout slides from the summer trip. Gifts were given to Mrs. Dorothy Johnson and Mrs. Lucile Russell, and Linda Johnson, Sue Ann Simpson, and Dianna Fields sang He. Darlene Sandquist, Dixie Gage and Marilyn Wax performed Silver Bells. Mrs. Eastwood, Hall, Simpson, Sandquist, Warren and Wax served the young people.
Emerson Masons appointed and elected new officers for the lodge with Don Eastwood as worshipful master and Marlin Allen senior warden. Other officers include Everett Gipe junior warden Lane Morse treasurer Glenn Cooper secretary Walter Larsen senior deacon Edwin Grayson junior deacon and Richard Steen trustee. Installation planned for January.
Columbus Neb engagement announced for Charlotte Kinali daughter of Mr and Mrs Linda Kinali to D Gordon Gammell son of Mr and Mrs Dale Gammell Emerson The couple plan a February 23 wedding Charlotte is a Commercial Extension School of Commerce graduate and works as a secretary for Mutual Life Insurance in Omaha Gordon is employed by Sides Construction in Omaha
The Emerson Women's Club met Tuesday December 4 at the Methodist church for a 33 o'clock dessert luncheon and gift exchange. After luncheon the business meeting began with the pledge and club collect. The Spirit of Christmas was the theme. Christmas carols were sung and a program by Mrs LeRoy Johnson. Mrs Jessie Fisher and the Women’s Club Chorus were presented. Luncheon hosts were Mrs Ivan Durbin, Mrs Will Kerns, Mrs Marvin Hunt, Mrs Arthur Allen and Mrs Donald Eastwood.
The Emerson Woman's Relief Corps held a December 7 meeting with Christmas party. Officers elected include Mrs Hattie Malskell president and Mrs Emma Ingersoll senior vice. Other officers are Mrs Erma Allen treasurer Mrs Mildred Huntsman secretary Mrs Juanita Jones historian Mrs Signa Tengstrom patriotic instructor and Mrs Gayle Gravett conductor. A children’s box was packed for the Annie Wittenmier home in Davenport.
The OES chapter hosted Masons and their families for a Thursday pot-luck. Past Matrons and Past Patrons were honored, followed by a program. Local officials and several residents attended Christmas events and travel plans for Mrs. Lucile Edie to visit relatives in Las Vegas Anaheim and Petaluma after the holiday.
Emerson residents learn Estelle Darby is named president with Wayne Spicer as vice president and Lane Morse as secretary and treasurer. Engagement announced for Marilyn Margeret Lakin to Floyd E. Ricker of Huxton. They plan a December 29 wedding at Uethany Baptist Church.
About fifty people attended Hillsdale Church Sunday for the Monthly Family Night supper at seven. Hosts were the Dale Sell family with Ernest Brower absent. A lively program followed featuring Roger Sell and a band, comedy by Jim Sell and Hosalee Wright, carol singing by Terry Sell and others, modern dances, and duets by Carolyn Hunt and Dan Lenz with guitar.
Hillsdale WSCS will hold its Christmas meeting and party at Mrs. Forrest Bloomer's home on December 20 at 9 am with officers hosting and coffee. Mrs. Frank Reinhold to lead devotions and program, then business meeting. Secret sisters to exchange gifts. Rural Improvement Club party set for December 19 at Hillsdale church with Mrs. Glen Jackson directing program.
The Hillsdale Church corn on George Wright acreage yielded 172 bushels and was picker shelled by a member, selling for 1.02 per bushel to a local farmer. Proceeds go toward the church building note. Community notices list visits and events including a junior high Christmas party at Glenwood High School, relatives in from Sidney, and gatherings in Tabor and Red Oak.
The Harmans hosted a Sunday dinner with relatives from Glenwood and Malvern. Hillsdale Church held Bible Sunday with a choir piece Wonderful Words of Life and a sermon The Unfettered Word. Sunday School had 23 attendees and collected 3.22 dollars. Mrs. Thieschafer attended a Malvern coffee at Mrs. Waller's. Snow and Santa talk frame the mood as cold winds halt fall farm work.
