Spotlight on the social scene covers Mrs Bass appointment to the Fifth District GOP Federation. Eighty attendees from Avoca Anita Clarinda Council Bluffs Des Moines Dunlap Emerson Glenwood Griswold Hamburg Malvern Mineola Missouri Valley Mondamin Neola Persia Shenandoah and Sidney gather for the 7th District American Legion Workshop at the Sundown Supper Club in Glenwood on Nov 25. Speakers include District Commander Keith McCall Anita and Dept Officers Fritz Possehl Des Moines Adjutant Robert White Des Moines Service Officer Val Likens Des Moines Membership Chair James Youmans Persia. The meeting urged recruiting and new programs, and noted the 7th District is 72 percent of its membership goal. A Dutch lunch followed. colors were presented by Glenwood Post.

Inter Church Council Sponsored Dinner In Malvern

Inter Church Council of the Malvern Churches planned and carried out a cooperative Thanksgiving dinner and worship service at the Baptist church. The council furnished turkeys, prepared by community women. Sixty six attendees and 18 hot dinners were sent to those unable to attend. Rev Viney and Rev Bedsworth led the service. Canned goods and staples were donated, with baskets given to several families. Tony Norton, 12, celebrated his birthday with classmates and family on Thanksgiving week.

November Book and Study Club Meeting Cancelled

A November meeting of the Book and Study club was cancelled with the next regular session planned for January. The note mentions a pleasant week visiting and work on Norton’s new house, a birthday celebration, and thanks for the past year with Martin Hammers and Tony present.

Airman Debbie Bayes and Airman Pam Worman from Plattsburgh New York spent a four day leave in New York City during Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. They toured landmarks including the Statue of Liberty U N Building Empire State Building St Patrick's Cathedral Harlem and The Bowery. They watched The Importance of Being Ernest at Bowery Lane Theatre and saw a Rockefeller Center stage show and the Rockettes. They shopped at Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Foster Parent Meeting Set at Glenwood Bank

A foster parent meeting for current and prospective participants is tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenwood State Bank community room. Mike Monfils of the Department of Social Services will preside and present the film Low View From A Dark Shadow, depicting a foster child’s perspective and the adjustments required, followed by a discussion.

Silver Creek Go-Getter's meeting at Wederquist home

At Mike Wederquist's home on Nov 8 at 8 p.m. eleven members attended. Two new members Darren Blackburn and Robert Clark were elected. A bake sale committee was formed: Todd Benton, Doug Bass, Richard Primrose. A $2.50 gift limit was set for the December Christmas exchange. Doug Bass presented a film strip on supply and demand and meat prices. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Wederquist.

Mills County approves final Pony Creek plots

Mills County Board of Supervisors on December 1 passed a resolution approving the final plot of Pony Creek Lake Development No 4, containing 37.33 acres across SE quarter of section 28, and the final plot of Pony Creek Lake Development No 5 with 15.8 acres in the NE quarter of section 33. Mills county will not provide maintenance or construction on private streets or roads in these final plats. The measure was seconded by Supervisor Bass and approved unanimously.
