Auto Wreck Near Tabor Road Ends with Narrow Escape
A Friday night collision on Tabor road involved James Hyans of Rawtes township and Howard Strahan in a heavy roadster. Hyans, driving home after visiting a neighbor, and Strahan both escaped injury along with Hyans’s son. The Studebaker was damaged, towed by Piper’s garage, and preparations began to restore it. The mishap serves as a warning against speeding on highways.

Lieutenant Summers Visits Home After Camp Dodge Commission
Lieutenant Frank Summers Eumerg arrived from Camp Dodge on Tuesday evening with Mr. and Mrs. James Swain to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Simmerg, and friends. He has finished Officers Training School at Camp Dodge and received his commission as Second Lieutenant. He will have a furlough until September 5 before returning to Camp Dodge to join the Depot brigade in the 18th regiment.

Mrs. T. D. Givson received a letter from her brother A. B. Byers of Idaho, a former Malvern resident, stating his son Edward Byers was wounded in action and taken to a hospital on July 20. Edward enlisted in Chicago after the war began and had active service for some time. Born in Malvern, he is remembered by many here who hope for his speedy recovery.

Fire at Anderson's Garage Causes Minor Damage
Fire alarm sounded about ten o'clock Monday morning as the hose cart rushed to the Anderson Garage next to the Leader Office. The Welder overheated and caught fire, flames only surrounding it. Outside of that, little damage occurred and no greater loss was reported.
