Stolen Money Found in Circulation in Chicago
Government agent T. J. Porter identified the handwriting on a $1,000 bank note as George W. Fitzgerald’s notation “173M” on top of a package totaling 178,000 dollars. The note, sent to the subtreasury by Commercial National Bank in Chicago, ties to Fitzgerald’s arrest for alleged theft. Fitzgerald concedes he may have written the mark but says it was routine on top bills and does not prove who circulates the stolen funds.
