Mills County women organize a county convention at the Baptist church next Thursday April 26 all day. The program features county officers reports, papers on temperance topics, musical numbers, round table talks and a schoolchildren cantata. The event raised over 50 dollars for playground equipment.
A fine sale of Shorthorn cattle including 28 cows and heifers and 22 bulls will be offered at the Malvern Air Grounds on Friday May 4. The lot is consigned by nine breeders Summers Bros GC Warren J J Swain Sons Fred Durbin W A Matthews Roy Laird BE L Glad win George Estes and C M Follett. Many animals are Scotch or Scotch topped with the herd headers present and cows likely to calf by sale day.
A pleasing entertainment by pupils of first through fifth grades was given last Thursday at the Baptist church. Teachers Miss Helen Kratt and Miss Ruby Shannon directed the enjoyable program, praised for its charm and quality.
Mrs Esther Sutherland, 78, a former Mills County resident, died Friday near Elmwood at her son J B S residence. Her sister in Elmwood died earlier. funeral held Sunday at Elmwood Methodist Church. Survived by three sons, one daughter, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Silver Urn Lodge No 238 A F and A M held a special meeting last Thursday with strong attendance. Hurb Benton advanced in the Third degree under W M Robert Criswell and officers. A post meeting cafeteria lunch followed and more petitions and affiliations are expected as winter proceeds.
Herman Bishop formerly of Strahan now of Montana reports enlisting for four years as a fireman at the Puget Sound Navy Yard in Bremerton Washington. He notes the South Dakota sailed April 7 but he did not depart then and expects to ship on the next battleship leaving. He sends regards to old friends. son of Fred Bishop west of Glenwood.
Frank Anderson of Pacific Junction sold a litter from a Polish China sow last week. The mother weighed 900 pounds and six ten month old piglets averaged 345 pounds each. At 16.5 dollars per hundred, the sale brought about 480 dollars. A very profitable litter.
Secretary George H White reports Ruth Law the noted Aeroplanist will return to Malvern Fair as arranged. Since her last visit she set a record Chicago to New York flew for France and offered wartime service while praised by crowds. She again promises to perform before Malvern audiences as a premier attraction.

Two long time Mills County residents, Mrs. L H McFarland of White Cloud township and Mrs. John Parker of the same area, died within days of each other after brief illnesses. Mrs McFarland’s funeral was held at her home with Rev M A Gable and Rev B F Galloway officiating. she was born Christenla Addy in 1854 and moved from Ohio to Iowa with her family in youth. Mrs Parker died at her son H R Parker’s home. funeral services were conducted at the Malvern Methodist church by Rev M A Gable and Rev Peter Jacobs. obituary notes Mary Louisa Johnson was born in Morrow County Ohio in December.

The Junior class hosted the Senior class and faculty with a patriotic banquet at the Mulholland residence on Douglas Street. Invitations resembled marching orders and the event featured flag decorations, red white and blue menus, silk cords, and tissue caps. A formal program followed the meal with toasts and tributes led by student and faculty participants.
At a Malvern Public Library Board meeting last Friday it was decided to move into the new library next month and dedicate it June 1 with a formal opening. A committee will plan the program and prepare grounds, aiming for complete readiness. Perry Hendricks resigned as treasurer. W P Wortman fills the vacancy and Mrs C R Royce becomes treasurer for the unexpired term. Ruth Roberts is re elected librarian for another year and praised for her hard work.
The heirs of the late Mrs J N Summers announce an auction of the Malvern estate properties on Saturday April 28. The sale includes a modern home owned by Mrs Summers and a residence north of it once occupied by Charles Robbins. High bidders will acquire these desirable properties.

At a regular congregational meeting on April 11 at Malvern Presbyterian Church, Rev. W. R. Moore was unanimously elected pastor. A call to Moore will be placed by Rev. W. H. Jordan, with Elders M. Jones and David Kilpatrick authorized to prosecute before the Corning Presbytery meeting April 18-19 at Randolph. Moore graduates from Omaha Theological Seminary on April 26.
