Emerson funeral for Martha Ella Stephens obituary details

Funeral services were held Sunday at Emerson First Baptist for Martha Ella Stephens. Born February 3 in Clifton Hill Missouri she married Miles Stephens in 1898. She lived in the Emerson area most of her life and died April 10 at age 83 years, two months and seven days. She leaves a daughter Maude Darby Hastings three sons Charles May Herbert and Emmett ten grandchildren and many relatives. Burial was in Emerson cemetery by Peirce Mortuary with a large circle of kin and friends in attendance.

Seventeen Earn Perfect Attendance Pins at First Baptist Emer Son

Seventeen members of the First Baptist Sunday School of Emer son received four year perfect attendance pins in a Sunday School program begun four years ago. Recipients listed include Ron niv Good and several Has call and Greenwood family members. Also notes social visits from local residents and hospital/folk visits in the community.

Emerson PTA Names Mrs Bass New President

Emerson PTA met at the school gym on Thursday night April 9 for its regular meeting. Guest speaker Dr Bastion from Red Oak spoke on hypnosis. The award for most parents present went to Mrs Marion Pennington's room. New officers are Mrs George Basa president Mrs Farris Waterworth vice president Mrs Don McFarland secretary and Mrs Chas Lakin treasurer. Emerson Legion Auxiliary meets at the Legion hall

The American Legion Auxiliary met at the Legion hall on Friday with 15 members present. In the absence of the president Mrs Everett Lunn, the vice president Mrs Lester DeBolt presided and discussed travel allowances for Junior Auxiliary Conference attendees. Emerson status included a donation to Red Cross efforts and plans for a Girls Nation trip. Members named include Lurland Abels, Jo Riley, Lester DeBolt, Eugene Lang Waite, and alternates Burmeister, Chas Wax.

Emerson Chapter O E S held its School of Instruction on April 13 with Mrs Doyle Williams leading. Worthy Matron Willa Lou Mabary and Patron Jack Mabary presided. distinguished guests included Worthy Grand Matron Mrs June Watson and Worthy Grand Patron Howard Lyon. A 55-person reception and a 6:30 dinner followed, with breakfast served for Grand Officers before departure to Topeka Kansas for Grand Chapter.

Emerson student Kathryn Grayson is named for outstanding scholastic achievement in the second semester of 1957 and first of 1958 59. Mr and Mrs R L Grayson will attend the honors convocation at the O U Auditorium to honor her along with other OU students.

Emerson Women's Club Meeting At Red Oak

Emerson Women's Club met April 7 at the Baptist church with 22 present. The group voted a donation to firefighters for a resuscitator. J Rodrigues Fernandes, a Spanish foreign exchange student at Red Oak High School, spoke after the girls glee club sang. Lunch was served by Mrs. Marvin Hunt. Also notes attendance of local residents and church event details. Ricky Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Davis, underwent an appendectomy in Red Oak.
