Levi Fry Middle School’s symphonic band earned 22 first divisions and two second divisions at the Music Region XVII Solo and Ensemble Contest hosted by Brazosport High School. First division medalists include Wendy Smith and Marie Carden among others, with a full roster listed.
Nineteen-year-old Texas City Troop 232 member Scott Greene earned the Eagle Scout rank at a First Presbyterian Church ceremony. The 17-year-old Brownsea 22 participant and 1984 Philmont rider has logged over 300 camping days, completed 21 merit badges, and directed a post Alicia cleanup project at the Texas City Day Nursery. Scott plans to pursue college soon while remaining active in scouting as an adult after graduation.
A Gulf Coast regional task force reports broad needs for expanding facilities and programs for mental health and mental retardation services. It calls for higher county and city funding, local education, and a contingency fund, plus more group homes, case management, and transport for Gulf Coast MHMR clients.
