Oregon Trunk Line Officials Inspect Deschutes Route

Oregon Trunk Line president W F Nelson and secretary Lal Gregory visited Madras to inspect the Deschutes River to Sherar's Bridge segment for right of way issues tied to a government reclamation project. They foresee a future Bend extension and rising tonnage, while rights of way and dam doubts may delay immediate construction.

Epworth League to Stage Sacred Concert in Madras

The Epworth League of the German M E Church will present a sacred concert at Sanford's Hall in Madras on Tuesday evening June 4 2007 Admission is free with a silver collection for a new organ for the church The program features prayers spoken pieces vocal solos duets and a male quartet plus readings and instrumental selections by local performers.

Wheat Prospects Bright Across Eastern Central Oregon

Reports from Eastern and Central Oregon praise ideal conditions for a big crop. Crook County farmers joyfully anticipate a bumper year as rain last week restored moisture, while Umatilla and Crook counties report bright prospects with wheat looking fine and no deep freezes impacting yields. Farther south, Rock Creek area shows large Fall wheat acreage and ongoing rainfall supports good prospects.

Twelve-year-old girl lands eight pound steelhead salmon

Minnie Gomer, daughter of Wy Gomer, hooked an eight pound steelhead salmon in the Deschutes River and, with her brother Emanuel, landed a thirty inch fish. The pair previously saw a larger fish break their line.

Campbell system showing early gains in Bend fields

The Bend Bulletin reports last fall two fields were prepared to test Campbell dry farming methods. The Campbell tract south of the mill shows oats sprouting, while the Taber field near Pilot Butte lags, as irrigation has not begun. A third field west of the river is being prepared with Campbell tools and surface packing for moisture retention.
